Michael Praetorius, Bourrée from Terpsichore
For Five Emvoice Synthetic Voices and BIAB

I first heard this on pop radio in 1967 as the instrumental section of "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" by the Fifth Estate. It is festive!

well, that was different! Different but entertaining. I imagine it took quite a while to get all this coordinated. A tip of the hat for your creativity!

Best to you. Take care ...

That was... yep, Alan said it: different.

Some of the voices get buried in the mix, but overall the musicality came through.

Although some of the voices came out more like goat bleats than voices. laugh

I enjoyed listening to it.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Amusing...It slipped through my self imposed Xmas related music prohibition...sneaky!
I revived Ding Dong about 5 years ago...I had a student in my class who stated her role was to destroy witches so the 5th Estate song became her classroom theme song (each kid had one).

Much thanks for the comment. It took less time than you might think but not as much time as I should’ve given it. It was a great deal of fun hearing this thing emerge from my iMac!

Whoa! Love those counterpoint harmonies. Those Synths are getting pretty good. Tough to mix for sure, but you did a fine job, Mark. All the best, man.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks. For this little project I decided to “embrace the bot“. =8>]

Oh, I considered taking the goats (trills) out, but how could I? One of my motivations in doing this, actually, was I was wondering how the trills would sound, and now I know. They sound like goats!

The “burial” problem is, I think, largely due to quantization of voices in close harmony, with all the articulations of all those voices perfectly lined up. I should have humanized the MIDI parts before importing them into Emvoice, and then imported them without quantization. And of course if they weren’t all just singing la la la that would be something else entirely.

There are times, though, when a distinct buzzing emerges out of nowhere, and I need to get that under control. I believe I am hearing combination tones, which presumably Praetorius had under better control 400 years ago even though they were always a problem. If this rings any particular bells for you please let me know!

Hey, the Xmas thing is your projection, all I said was “La la La “. =8^)

Glad somebody else remembers that old pop hit. I hadn’t heard it in decades and was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it out of Apple Music. I think it stands up as a dandy treatment of the song.

By the way, the reason I was thinking about that song is I was wondering if the idea for that death might’ve come from the death of the wicked stepmother in “The Juniper Tree”. Big heavy object falling from the sky crushing nasty old woman, hmm.

Thanks. l do love that renaissance counterpoint. There are moments in this short piece where the way the voices come together and then diverge is just breathtaking. 400 years ago, woo.

Wow! I'm actually a big fan of Early Music but never heard this with vocals. Or a swing groove. Gotta give you big points for creativity. I think it would have taken a lot of work to smooth this out but it would be interesting to hear the results. You are definitely playing with twelve sided die and the rest of us are just slinging the old six-sideds. Keep up the interesting work!

I much appreciate this but there's very little credit I can take for anything here, and I do blush! He wrote the music, she transcribed the MIDI sequence, they wrote the band software, and they wrote the singing software. What did I do? I clicked and dragged.

But what a time to be alive, in musical history, to be able to do this! =8^)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
