Every time I think things are returning to normal they get worse than before. The pandemic is out of control here in South Florida.

Two or three weeks ago bands I know were returning to work and venues were opening back up and things were returning to a little like normal.

Many of my friends here locally have called to say they have Covid. They say many people they know are also infected. It is worse now than it has ever been.

The good news is that very few are passing away or getting really sick. Having said that the local hospital is filling up rapidly. My wife and I have decided to go back into isolation to the extent we can until things get better.

The other good news is a vaccine developed by Baylor in Houston and a company in India was approved in India on 28 December. It only costs $3 US dollars and a billion jabs are currently in the supply chain. It is said to be 90% effective and is the first affordable vaccine to come to market.

Who wants to get on an airplane and get stuck in some airport because they had to cancel the flight?

The losses to the music business are in the multi-billions as it is now in the United States. A new report has found that COVID-19 caused the Australian live music industry to lose $1.4billion in 2020.

I have to wonder what the real outcome of all this will be.
Perhaps BIAB will become more popular and internet-only music will make gains.

Billy,

I am playing gigs every day with these people.

We haven't slowed down one iota, son.

Wow, that is great David. As I said, all this may prove to be beneficial to companies like P G Music and Internet-generated music in general.

The pandemic is not stopping me from playing, just preventing live gigs at least for the moment. I don't play music for a living so there is no economic impact for me. I have many friends that do play for a living and it is causing them great economic harm, especially in Europe.

I would think some parts of the country are less affected than others.

Some other countries like Australia that have experienced almost continual lockdowns have had it really bad. The current predictions for Australia are the business will not return to normal until after 2025. There is a whole generation of musicians who may be lost to the pandemic.

The business loss is horrible. The "current death" of more than 800,000 people here in the United States is beyond belief.

I'm gigging about twice a week, which is much less than pre-COVID but much better than 2020 and the first half of 2021.

They are all outdoors, in Florida, and weather permitting.

I make my own backing tracks, and am in a duo with my wife, so we can control which gigs we take.

Off-stage, we are extremely careful about where we go and what we do. Vaccines? Yes. KN95 masks? Yes. Going to places where COVID is likely to get us? No.

Are we 100% safe? No, but we are minimizing our risk.

Sadly, some of our musicians in the area caught COVID and a few of them didn't make it.

After a year and a half of no gigs due to COVID, it feels very good to be entertaining again.

Fortunately we've been a duo in this area for many years, we have a very good reputation, and most of our business has been with clients we have had a relationship with for years.

Things appear to be slowly improving. Hopefully COVID will evolve to be something no more dangerous than the flu. But nobody really knows if that will happen or not.

Not entirely true .. the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine costs about the same and has been around for over a year. It's proven to have been effective, despite the mud slung at it early on by the EU. It might be true in the US, maybe AZ didn't get approved there? I know it was held back because of Macron's ... comments?

We gigged last night at the resort where we have played the last few New Year's Eve parties. It was semi-outdoors, some inside a building with windows all open, and some outside.

In the past, we played for a few hundred people there, last night only about 50.

A lot of French Canadians winter at this resort, and due to omicron, the Canadian government asked them to either return, or if they get COVID they have to stay in the USA until cured.

Canada has socialized medicine, and medicine in the USA is very expensive, so most of the Canadians went home frown

The ones that stayed are wealthy enough to buy expensive USA supplemental health insurance.

We had a great time anyway. The dance area was filled all night, people sang along with the songs they know by heart, and at the end, many of them thanked us for the nice evening.

We're all just making the best of an unfortunate situation.

I am still kind of enjoying Covid. On the extremely rare days I leave my house there are no people in the stores, no traffic on the roads... Perfect conditions for a misanthrope of my level!!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
