My 2022 BIAB UltraPak is due to arrive today.
I’m still undecided as to whether I should run it from the USB 3.0 Hard Drive or install it over my 2019 version on my C drive (The RealTracks and RealDrums are installed on my D drive).
Is it possible/advisable to first try the USB 3.0 Hard Drive install (including RealDrums and RealTracks) to see how it performs (speedwise)? Then, if this seems OK, is it possible to simply(?) uninstall my 2019 BIAB?
If the USB install seems slower, how can I then uninstall the USB 3.0 Hard Drive install and then install BIAB 2022 to the PC’s C drive (with RealTracks and RealDrums on my D drive)?
I guess I’m trying to save space on my C drive (I won’t have enough space for a Windows 11 install in the future – I don’t know if that’s important).
BUT, the most important thing is, I don’t want to lose any performance/speed with BIAB/RealBand.
What would you advise?
Thanks, in advance,
Mike
My PC specs (Windows 10) are:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
C drive (SSD): used 77.5b of 118gb (40.5gb free)
D drive (HDD): used 507gb of 930gb (423gb free)

I'm using the 2nd installation option, and leaving the RD'S AND RT'S on the USB hard drive. Generation is about 5 seconds, which was about the same speed when I had everything on my own hard drive.

I've just read that again ... you won't get an UltraPAK onto the C drive,it's far bigger than the drive, IIRC it's somewhere aeround 140G. It'd go onto the D drive OK.

I had no problems with it on a USB-3 SSD drive, but I put it onto a dedicated partiton on an internal HD.

I saw your other version of this thread first, in the tech forum. My answer is there.

Your C drive doesn't currently have enough space to do a full installation on the internal HD in full. You can do the Option 2 split installation and install the main program to the C drive and then install the rest of the content to your D drive where you mentioned your other RealTracks and Drums already are. You can also install everything to the D drive. Or, you could run everything from the external HD that's supplied to you. In all honesty, I've not seen an issue with speed running solely from my external HD, so that's how I've always operated my personal copy of the program. Also I personally prefer everything on a single drive and not split, as every once in a blue moon Band-in-a-Box will need the paths reset up sometimes do to a Windows update or something that knocks it out. Doesn't happen often, but it has happened before, and if that does happen it's super quick to re-set those paths in the program and rebuild! Having it all on one drive and pulling from there solely is my personal preferred method.

Absolutely agree with Ember. I recently installed on C: (Nvme) keeping RT and RD on E: (SSD) to try to save a few seconds at startup. But after a few openings, the time was the same. So if you don't have a 1TB Nvme drive, you better forget. And also the fact that EVERYTHING is on the same unit is an element of stability and the guarantee of less hassle if reinstallation problem.

Thanks Ember and MoultiPass.
After much consideration and valued input from Forum members, I've decided to install the program on the C drive, and the RealTracks and RealDrums on my D drive (as I did last time).
Thanks so much for your advice.
Cheers,
Mike

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
