In chord options it is possible to use Rest Type: Rest Only, Shot and Hold, you can either control this for All Instruments or All Except - and here's the request:

I am missing the option to do it with all the tracks I have in my mixer and not only the first 5 instruments (Tracks)

Written in the Chord Sheet
"C...DBG1G4" would make life easy since I want to Hold all instruments except Bass (Track 1), Drums (Track 3), Guitar 1 (Track 4) and Guitar 4 (Track 6)

I understand that neither Melody Track or Soloist Tracks from the beginning were supposed to or thought as being substituted with Rhythm based tracks, but now I have even Utility Tracks I might want to Choose an individual Rest Type for.

I know that the workaround would be making two song files where I just switch/replace the first 5 instruments - but that would mean I need either a DAW or Audio rendering of one part and then import the audio track into the song. And if I want to make changes in the Chord Sheet I have to do it in two songs files and then again render one of them to audio...that's a nightmare workflow

Another approach was to choose between All Instruments or Selected Instruments (make the choice "positive") - in some cases I want my Drums to be silent for the first half a bar and then appear (kick in) in the second half of that bar - typically used when introducing the drums as a type of delayed drum intro or the last 2 ticks at the end of a Drop (the silent part of a song) to add early tension to the final Chorus.
I hope this makes sense

MicroChords in version 2022 should help you get there.

At some point, Utility Tracks will, too.

I'm yet to see MicroChords - but to what point would Utility tracks get me there in other ways, than I described as workaround?

The plan for Utility Tracks is to make all tracks work the same way. That’s what I meant. But microchords (and motifs) are here now.

Have you explored the old school method of freezing some tracks and copying them to Utility tracks, then altering v the remaining tracks?

"but to what point would Utility tracks get me there"

That is the big question smile

+1

Utility tracks...or should we call them just tracks (as all tracks are equal) are major piece of the puzzle to make BIAB complete. They desperately need shots, holds, rests, pushes and mutes at the "bar settings" to be truly equal. I am hoping these items will come sooner than later.

I think for the Windows release only (at this stage).

You’re absolutely right. I missed it. We have so many more Windows version questions, particularly after a new release. You have something to look forward to this year.

I should have spotted Logic Pro, only available for Macs. I am surprised to see in your signature that a MacMini has been built with an M1 CPU. How does it work for you?

Hi Matt,

the MacMini is actually working quite OK, though most plugins and DAW still runs best in Rosetta 2 mode - which is Intel CPU emulation by the M1 CPU.

The price at time of purchase (almost 1 year ago) was half the price for M1 compared to the Intel Based MacMinis left on the market, so it was more or less a no-brainer to replace my 9 year old MacBook Pro.

Apart from compatibility issues with software written mainly for Intel and AMD - I must say that the M1 CPU has been a solid and stable work horse - and the very mest...no cooling fans to deal with.

I'm quite satisfied

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
