WEDDING ON THE GREENHi fellow forumites, Here’s a folky sort of wedding song with an Irish twist. It features uilleann pipes, Irish flute, cello, Dx7 keys, Native Instruments' Picked Acoustic guitar, acoustic bass and drums. I’d love you to have a listen or two and tell me what you think. Constructive criticism and fulsome praise equally welcome . Thanks in advance, Mike Wedding on the Green was created in RealBand REALTRACKS USED: RT2959 and 2960: Bass, Acoustic - Neil Swainson RT912_Electric Piano, Rhythm background - Jeff Lorber RealDrums-NashBrushBalDbKEv16 – Brian Fullen RT1856: Cello, Background – Matt Nelson

Quite nice, Mike. Loved the tempo changes and the use of Irish trad instruments. Did you use the uillean pipes in Kontakt? They lacked the character of the real thing, but that is often the issue, not much you can do about that. There is a drone on them, did you try that? Anyway, I listened several times, it has a nice energy to it that indeed would be pleasant to hear at a wedding. Good work!

A very special arrangement. Love the often rubato feel. Yes, Irish for sure. Great choice of instruments. The mix and tune development are extraordinary, Mike. So entertaining. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
I almost missed this one. You always do such excellent work! Loved the way it moved into a softer mellow sound about a minute in! The arrangement is awesome! Thanks, Torrey

Hi, Mike. OK, hopefully constructive criticism: I'm not a huge fan of MIDI instruments, but I'll made an exception with the electric piano. Still, I'd add a bit of chorusing or something to make it a bit more alive. The trills on the flutes are nice, but placing them in a room using reverb might help get rid of the "MIDI" sound they have. Fulsome praise: Everything else! bloc-head mentioned everything else that stood out... except the acoustic guitar. That really helped elevate the song. Very nice track - excellent arrangement. I've not used tempo changes before, but you do it very effectively, and I really should add it to my bag of tricks. Excellent work.

The Irish flute doubles the uilleann pipes during the song which tends to soften their characteristic harshness to a certain extent. Glad you enjoyed the song. Stay well, Mike

Super enjoyable ear candy. It sounds to me like a wedding between traditional Irish music and a 1980s TV show theme song – and I get the TV vibe so strong at times I can almost see credits.
Good to hear someone using tempo changes (though it's a wee bit overdone here IMO.) Tempo change, even very slight, is a natural part of music that software makes it too easy to ignore, but it should be the norm rather than the exception (and I'm lecturing to myself here mostly.)

Mike,
The tempo changes are certainly interesting. Good of you to "wake us all up" to the idea...
There are times when I felt there was "too much going on" - part of that might be that I'm not a big fan of Irish music (or wedding music, for that matter). But, overall, it is a pretty piece...
I'm always impressed by your attention to detail - and the amount of work that obviously goes into your music...
Good mix.
An interesting listen, for sure...

Nice one Mike, I'm not a fan of the keyboard sound in the intro particularly..sounded fixed in the 80s to my old ears. the rest of the mix, while occasionally busy, is clear and solid. Very enjoyable stuff.

We always enjoy something different when done well like this.
Your track sources along with the RT's make for really nice, even cinematic, sound.
The arrangement with the tempo changes, etc., along with the mix (sounds good on our monitors) all make for an enjoyable and intriguing production.
Well done!

I'll investigate further to see what settings I used. Thanks again for your interest. Mike

Nice. I was surprised by several of the instruments. The picked acoustic by NI. I've experimented with midi guitars and could never get them sounding right. The nuances are the PITA for that. I didn't hear what I consider to be an Irish influence in there..... but that's just me and what I think. I was waiting for an Irishman or lady to start singing with a distinct Irish brogue but.... surprise.... it was instrumental.
I still enjoyed it.

I like Irish folk music so this is very refreshing song. Beautiful chord progression and very cool pipes, I wish to hear more them. The mood certainly has wedding theme, dancing and green fields. Many nice changes.

Hello Mike,
On SoundCloud I wrote 'it must have been e very nice wedding', because this song gave that impression. I read all compliments on your composition, the melody and tempo changes and that's what i think too. And, although midi is a bit 'dangerous' to use for piano's and flutes, you managed to let them sound fairly good!
I bet realising the tempo changes in BiaB must have gave some headacke, but it's done very good.
Hans

I'm really glad that I didn't miss this one.
This is a very clever piece of music that was executed perfectly.
Super grooves.
Mike, this is your best to date IMHO.
I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
