Happy New Year all!! We made it to '22!! I've always loved the 60's sound, and BIAB has given me the tools to put together some songs with that vibe. I was always a big fan of the Byrd's sound and have done a few with the aim of capturing that style. This is one. I always love to hear your comments and read them all but sometimes I wait too long and don't want to jump to the top from page 4 (things move fast these days!). Hope you enjoy. Take care. Greg

The band:

Bass. 519
Electric 12-string. 1030
Drums. Nashville ev 8's
Acoustic guitars. 1119, 522
Solo guitar 1260
Organ. 2692

When she wore green

When she wore green
Like the star of a movie screen
With the elegance of a queen
She wore it true

I’ve never seen
An emerald could ever shine
As bright as that love of mine
When she wore green

And I’m sure the trees were jealous
How they paled when she walked by
And a passerby would tell us
How her smile lit up the sky
And I haven’t seen a light so bright
Since the day she went away
And since she’s gone now
My whole world is gray

When she wore blue
You could see she was sad right through
Even the shadows knew
They grew darker still
She wore it true
And felt it with all her soul
Sorrow without control
When she wore blue

And she had this way of sharing
All her colors with the world
And she had this way of caring
More than any other girl
And…

Where’s the beauty in a rainbow when your whole world’s black and white
I can’t even face the world until the stars come out at night

When she wore black
I felt my foundation crack
She’d leave and she wouldn’t be back
And how lost I would be
When I look back
I guess that I should have seen
The size of the gap between
Herr bright colors and me

There’s a danger comes from flying
When you’re too far from the ground
But it’s hard to keep from trying
For the fear of falling down
Her colors were so beautiful
I could touch them yesterday, but…..

I see a new song post by Greg Johnson, Imma gonna jump on it. The song reminds me a bit of Bob Dylan's "If Not for You," but branches out from it as it plays. Loved the usual very pleasing rhymes like "jealous and tell us." I remember once you wrote that the only instrument you played was BIAB. Well, maybe so, but nobody plays it better. And a voice that compares favorably with Jackson Browne. Another great tune I thoroughly enjoyed. Highest marks!

Very pretty song Greg.
You've captured the '60s and The Byrds with this one. Even the harmonies sounded from that wonderful era.
The story told through various colours works a treat.
Cheers,
Mike

I'm not expert in '60s songs, but it sounds like you've really nailed that vibe - but with your own personal sound. Love the jangly guitars!

The write is especially good - it takes what could have been a simple "colors" list, and fleshes it out with emotion.

The high harmonies and echoes are a real treat! When you go to three parts, it's gorgeous!

Love it! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Greg,

Well, I'm a child of the 60's, I'll always love that era of music. I think you nailed that vibe perfectly with this little gem.

Excellent write, great vocal (of course) and man, those harmonies!

Superb smile

Killer. (Might be a bit TOO good for a '60's song smile )

You really DID nail both the Byrds thing and a '60's AM radio sound.

Gorgeous vocals and harmonies.

Excellent.

I am a fan of 50-60s pop, this is a very good take on that period. Excellent composition and vocals! Lyrics are exceptional too. It is always a pleasure hearing your new offerings. Enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.

Nice!

i hear the sounds of the Byrds, Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkle, and others from the 60's.

Beautiful lyrics that are perfect for that time

i can imagine hearing this song coming out of the little speaker on my 9volt battery transistor radio on a hot summer day.

great job!

Hi Greg,

Good song - could easily have been a hit for Simon and Garfunkel.

Thanks for the listen.

Best Regards

Greg, that 12 string does the trick to bring in that 60's vibe! Beautiful song and vocals! Another Greg classic! Thanks, Torrey

Mr. Johnson...

The Byrd's sound was always attractive to me because of the cascading effect of the multiple and simultaenous guitar tracks they seemed to always incorporate into their productions, and you have simulated that sound successfully. Your lyrics possess the dreamy ambience that one would expect from a story that is told mostly from the viewpoint of the past. A pleasant vocal track rounds things out nicely, too.

Nice bright and colorful pop tune with some darker colors too. Great soft vocals, smooth harmonies and the 60's sounding acoustic guitar sounds really create the perfect mood.

Great write and, no surprise, excellent vocals. The harmony was standout.

Since you and others have compared the vibe to other artists we'll join in smile
Got a Poco feel for us vocally and arrangement wise.

Well done Greg,

Just a lovely song, Greg! In every aspect.
I liked the vocals / harmonies the most (if that is posible ;-))

I can hear this song many times, I enjoy it every time.
Maybe it has to do with me being a BeeGees fan long before they went 'high'.
And this song appeals to that time...

Nice day, Greg,
Hans

Hey Greg...this would have played on 60' radio...in fact as I lay in my bed with my transistor radio on the window sill at night back then I would have loved this tune...you captured the spirit of the great 60's soft ballads perfectly...the Byrds, Chad and Jeremy, Simon and Garfunkel, etc...the vocals are impeccable and the instrumental is so apropos...I loved it...takes be back!! This is a little risky but this maybe my favorite tune of yours (so far)...Dan

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
