Hello, forum friends After a little blank, this is my first post of this year. I often go to listen to live performances at our local jazz clubs. One day I met a wonderful female jazz pianist at one of the clubs, which is over 10 years ago. So I asked my collaboration with her hesitatingly. As I received a reply with OK, we recorded some songs in a local music studio after that. This song is one of the songs recorded at that time. For the convenience of the budget, only Piano part was live recorded and other parts were produced by Band-in-a-Box(MIDI). I preserved the recordings at that time, but regrettably they were just stereo sources and the mix balances were bad, so I had not post them to the forum so far. Recently I got the software called SpectraLayers Pro 8 from Steinberg. The software can un-mix stereo sources into 5 tracks (Vocal, Piano, Bass, Drums, and others.) Therefore, it is possible to fix the bad balance of the sound sources. This time I would like to post the re-mixed version by SpectraLayers. Any comments encouraged. Always welcome. Best regards. Shigeki Adachi Title: Sigh Vocal: Natsuki Yoshikawa, our local female jazz vocalist Piano: Miya Nakajima, our local female jazz pianist. Link: https://soundcloud.com/animarorecords/sighremaster2022Style is J~WLZTRI.STY: Jazz Waltz Trio Style MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic Bass (33) MIDI Drums :41 Brushes Kit (41) All instruments played with EastWest Goliath. Summary of lyrics I wipe the cloudy window glass with my finger And I am looking for a wide back reminiscent of you While watching the city from the window The cup in my hand still remains warm a little But I feel the distance between us through the cup Which is getting cold little by little I was attracted to your lonely eyes Appealing to me no place to go back But you stopped temporarily and gave me only a sigh I was supposed to know that such a day would come But even now I cannot say goodbye to you well You still remain in the corner of my heart While I am waiting for you in my room Where you once stopped by a passing fancy I don’t know at all what should I do Clouds are gradually covering the city Also wrapping my tears and sorrows And I believe I was happy at the moment you loved me

Jazz waltzes are always fun to listen to. Syncopation and the unbalanced 3/4 meter are a great combination. Vocals are good, as is the backing. Sounds like a good recording, nothing problematic that I hear. And.. nice song, too!

What a wonderful mix and I love the jazz 3/4 feel, Shigeki Adachi. I can see (and hear) why you wanted Miya Nakajima in the studio. She is so good. You surround yourself and your songs with such talent like Miya Nakajima. You are an accomplished master of your music, man, and I am so happy you share your talents here.

Shigeki Adachi,
This is up to your usual high standards.
The mix sounds good. Balanced well.
Miya Nakajima does a nice job on piano. Natsuki Yoshikawa does an excellent vocal.
I enjoyed the listen. Good music.

There is nothing wrong with this.
Fantastic piano, vocal, and mix.
You nailed the jazz 3/4 waltz perfectly.
Loved it

Lovely work. I did notice quite a change when the vocal started...there seems to be a fair chunk of bottom end care of the proximity effect of nouth & mic. I could be wrong but it jumped straight out at me. The mix seems a little lighter and less muddy when the vocal backs off. That pianist is amazing - very melodic in all that stretching.

The extraction of the tracks is amazing.
We love waltzes and this is beautiful with the vocal and piano.
Great re-working of your song!

rayc,
Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment. I am really glad you like this tune and the pianist. I am always grateful for the support of great performers. The turbidity of the mix with the addition of vocals is probably due to SpectraLayers. Or it may be due to the original sound source. I would like to analyze it. I am always very encouraged by your kind words.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
