The full version of Kontakt is a powerful sampler player and a must-have for all musicians. It will open the door to thousands of free libraries too. In a nutshell, this method is all about crossgrade pricing and good timing.

The first thing to do is head to the Native Instruments website and sign up for an account. Then download and install Native Access.

To get the Kontakt discount, you’ll need to own a library that qualifies for discount crossgrade pricing. You might already own a library that qualifies, check the Native Instruments website for a complete listing of all qualified apps If you don’t currently own any of them go to the Embertone website and look for the free Kontakt Player library Arcane.

Get that downloaded and installed by opening Native Access and registering the serial number that Embertone sends you.

Next, go back to the Native Instruments website, specifically the Kontakt 6 product page. Make sure you’re logged in and check the dropdown box to select CROSSGRADE and the site should now show you the discounted pricing. Now ADD TO SHOPPING CART and complete the checkout process in the normal way.

This crossgrade will get you a reduced price but it will be even better if you wait for the 50% off sale that regularly happens. Which is NOW!

Honestly, I don't believe many here in the PG Retirement Village have any interest. grin But their kids will love it.

Watch yer mouth
I bit, but the downloads seem pretty painful (multiple fails) ...
Hopefully worth it in the long run.
I have a few of the 'free' Kontakt offerings, but I now have went in full bore
I'm trusting you guys on this one (my birthday is coming up, that's how I justified it)

Edit
OK, I have a bunch of stuff loaded .. but how do I actually (intuitively) use it?
Seems pretty convoluted so far, though I am sure it is user error
I try to answer more questions than ask, but this one ..

1st - You need to install Native Access. This is the NI program manager which controls all installs and registration. It is tricky but does the job well. You set defaults for where the libraries install so keep and eye out for that otherwise you may put large downloads onto the wrong drives.

2nd - In Native Access you install any and all of the NI products, including Kontakt. So Kontakt installs into Native Access first. Once installed, Kontakt is both a standalone application and a VST3 (and more). So you use Kontakt 6 to play any of the Kontact compatible libraries you have.

3rd - There are two types of Kontact compatible libraries: One is the libraries which directly register with Native Instruments using the Native Access. You get a special access code. This type will appear in the Kontact Libraries window with a nice graphic picture in alphabetical order. But there is also a second type, which does not register in Native Access and does not appear in the Libraries Windoe. This second type you have to load into Kontakt from the "files" window.

Is this helpful...?? Are we on the same page?? Otherwise, just let me know where you may be stuck. Glad to help if I can. Maybe a teamviewer would get you up and going quickly?

I have Native Access, and a bunch of stuff downloaded .. actually replaced my router tonight because the failed DL's were frustrating .. seems to have helped a little

My issue has been with how to actually USE them in a DAW .. again, probably me not understanding
I've been more focused on decompiling/recompiling some code for work lately, so maybe just lack of focus on my part
With this new distraction, I now recognize I need to focus some time on family for the rest of the day (at least) .. so no rush

OK, got ya. If your DAW is Reaper, I'm your guy. Otherwise, I am sure other folks here can help when needed. Welcome to Kontakt, its a whole new world of music making. grin

You should have at least two versions of Kontakt on your machine, a stand-a-lone version and a VST version. I use the VST3 version in my Studio One Pro DAW but I believe you have to use the VST version in BiaB. I don't know about RB.

I use the stand-a-lone version to add patches to its Quickload option then I use said patches in the VST3 mode. Like all instrument VSTs you load Kontakt first then choose a patch.

If you need help feel free to ask. I have been using Kontakt since version 3.

{edit} - note that Kontakt has two area for patches. On the left are the Kontakt patches that manufacturers paid a price to have installed there and on the right the Quickload patches that manufacturers didn't pay said price. If you don't see Quickload just right click in the right black space.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
