Love the lyrics, and the vocals and other instruments match the vibe of those lyrics well.

Was the fingerpicked acoustic guitar the "Picked Acoustic" from Kontakt? I've used that plugin to good effect on songs.

Another suggestion. I've used BB Real Track 522 for picked acoustic guitar and it has also worked well for me. You can also easily "double track" that guitar (just generate another version on a separate track). When I get some time, I'll post a remix of a song I did a while back, using that trick in the remix.

What processer are you using on the fretless Bass? I love it.

Thanks, appreciated. Nothing special on the bass, just some e.q. and compression.

Thanks a lot. The guitar solo was me, I almost always do my own solos and sometimes other guitar parts as the mood takes me.

Good one, gents!

Thanks a lot Dave.

Thanks Marty the fretless RT's are very nice - we could do with some more.

Hey Peter and Leon, I enjoyed your song very much. I used to call my sister "Magpie" so the title grabbed my attention right off. I do think the judge would consider it a crime if you wiped that smile off his face - LOL loved that line.

Hello Peter and Leon,

Lovely song abouth that bird. First heard of it's name in Australia. We saw it had layed it's eggs on a parking place. The male Mackpie had a hard time defending them. And we were puzzled why they had their eggs there...
My sister who lives there, called them 'Messerschmitts'(German fighter in WW2), because of their behaviour. since then we can only think of Magpies like that.

But that has nothing to do with your song about that bird. You made a lovely song with very nice lyrics!
I also had that question Ray had; why call the song Magpie when the crow had the most attention? But never mind.
I enjoyed this song, the vocals and the vocal harmony.

We’re so happy that you and Leon were able to get together!

Man, that fretless bass sounds great.

Your guitar solo was sublime and the steel sounded really good with it.

We enjoyed the doubled vocals by Leon and, as always, loved his lyric.
Your melodies and arrangements suit Leon’s lyrics perfectly. Why, y’all must’ve known each other a while, huh?!

“There’s a big hole
In the middle of my life
That once was full of you”

“There’s a new world
One without you in it
I don’t see how that can be real”

The above lines had Janice near tears. Sad but beautiful lines.

We’re looking forward to the next song already!

It was the Kontakt guitar. Another option if I'm not too lazy is play a picked acoustic. I've played along with some RT's in the past.
Thanks for the comments.

Hans,
I know why the magpie is there...they like to "collect" thing - thieves basically so the story of the magpie stealing the love makes sense as does the introduction of the clever, dark, dangerous, unhappy crow. I wanted the magpie reprised in the 2nd last stanza just to, sort of, take the song & ideas full cycle buy contrasting the bragging thief with the sorrowful critter.

Cheers

HI Peter & Leon ...

So original and excellent. That fretless sure gives it a distinctive sound. As usual, Leon's vocals are spot on. And Peter's guitar work is always such a pleasure. Good on yas!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
