if not already done mal spend a day googling lots of articles on the net and you tube re optimising a windows pc for music production. save the articles. i cant cover every topic. this stuff mate aint trivial , and if people ignore , often leads to problems. try also manufacturers of sound interfaces web sites. theres a ton of info out there , also on pg here. ie articles and vids etc. eg >>>>optimising
For most pro audio recording applications, ASIO is the preferred driver format to use, particularly when using an audio interface. Windows audio driver (MME, WDM, WASAPI) is perfectly fine in cases where you're gaming, streaming music or movies, or making video calls.
Today I tried Asio again, BB didn't crash, however I have no sound when trying to demo anything and all I get is 'Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file'. WMP is set as default media player, I've re-installed it as advised, so my conclusion is it's the Media player.

Mal, for undertaking the process of elimination, try using a different media player that Windows Media Player. VLC Media Player or Audacity come to mind.

You completely ignored my post. Before audiotraks,. so i’m at the point of giving up assisting. Of course i know asio is the norm. But using WAS is what people sometimes use in biab when running another OPEN app at same time. (i wont get into at this time multi client drivers as one thing at a time...but read up them plz.)
Troubleshooting is, as audiotrack said a process of elimination. and thats what ive been doing.
Once again i’ll reapeat…lets start with my point 1..in my previous post... When you get probs in asio biab IS CUBASE OPEN ! OR NOT ! IE DO YOU HAVE ASIO BIAB RUNNING AT SAME TIME AS CUBASE. (please also answer my other points in my previous post.)
OM, agreed. It's reasonable that there should be some response to suggestions from all who are trying to help. This forum consists mainly of voluntary contributors genuinely trying to help others to resolve identified issues.

Ok maybe i’m a mug for spending more time on this..but what the hey.
This morning i emailed audient tech support asking if the id range asio drivers are multi client….meaning one can run more than one app at a time that uses asio.
As we all know a lot of sound devices in the past and even today are not mc in the drivers. cos to quote another pg user asio is a ‘one trik pony’..ie one app at a time using asio.
I’ll report back once i hear back from audient. In the interim i would ask mal to answer my questions up thread…which i’m waiting for.
possibly this illustrates why some recording studios buy a pc daw from a custom builder of recording studio pc's that does all the software install and sound device//driver install/testing and delivers a turnkey daw so the user doesnt have to get in the hassle/weeds of config and set up.
If Windows is set to use the same audio device as Biab or a DAW and they take exclusive control over that device with ASIO then Windows will have nothing to play the wma demo with unless Biab is set to release the driver when it's stopped. That's why Biab needs an internal player to play the demo wma rather than using the windows system player. If it plays the wma using the audio device that Biab is using with a built in player, wouldn't that work ? Does this make sense ? I was talking to other techs about this and they said that is old using the system audio player and it went out after XP.
How many times does this issue come up in the forum ????
I meant no disrespect OM. It's just that I know my Asio wasn't at fault. It works fine on any other program that requires audio. I did an exhaustive search online but came up with nothing conclusive. I am sure there is no corruption on my system. Been through all of that. It seems everything points to some kind of anomaly with WMP.
I'd love to know if anyone does use an alternative media player and if it works. AudiTrack, can you confirm that your suggested alternative work?
looks like my audient evo drivers are multi client. i can have reaper daw open at same time as biab. both set to ASIO. and i'm groovy playing stylepicker demos in biab.
note in win advanced per sweetwater i posted before i have exclusive unticked in both playback and recording.
this is why we need pics mal. please post pics of your win advanced tab settings as well as a pic of your bb asio settings mate.
when i hear back from audient re your id drivers i'll post. if mine are multi client i would be surprised if you werent as id is the flagship product.
I guess changing default media player doesn't work. Tried changing defalt to vlc but BB still gives the WMP ERROR. cAN YOU CHANGE BB's default media player????
Ok thanks for pics.. 1..Audio driver asio dialog. I’m vision impaired so difficult but looks like same usb driver as i have 456…cept you have more channels. I have asio always on checked….read help on the dialog re synths//checking whether you want always on. Otherwise looks good. 2..Audio settings dialog. Looks good cept. I have mono not stereo selected. But like you i use daw for recording. 3..Preferences dialog. You dont need 99 undo, i have 9 but your decision. I have auto chek for updates unchecked. My daw pc dont see the net.I use a separate pc for that.
I gave you a link for checking advanced tab settings. See sweetwater link.here it is again...
And post pics of your recording and playback settings including advanced tab and what your sampling rate and bit depth in win is. Would respectfully suggest if you dont have one get a book on win. It helps lots. As does googling various win 10 dialogs. Just stay patient mate. Troubleshooting is difficult cos i’m not there.
Ps have you ever moved the wmp directory somewhere ? Where do your bb demos reside ?
PLEASE TRY THIS … If you have ultrapak bb drive…try booting into bb direct from the pg drive rather than your own internal drive. Does wmp work now ? Best om

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
