MAKE IT MINE This song is a total re-work of a tune I posted a couple years back. It was originaly a sort of tribute to the writing team of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, but I have re-written the lyrics in the first verse to reference all of our musical heroes who have left the stage. It's about dealing with, as a musician, getting older and trying to keep up with this rapidly changing world around us. My main purpose for this one though, is to encourage everyone to not stress about not "keeping up" with current trends and just keep making the music that brings joy to your life! Not trying to win a Grammy here, just want to have a little fun!! Thanks for having a listen! T BIAB Guitar - 4006 Modern Pop Soul - Used just in chorus sections Me Vocals Electric Piano Organ Guitars Bass Drums were from the Top 40 DOD set. I had to use these for a 4 on the floor sound. Opening 8 bar sequence of organ and horns from a Yamaha arranger keyboard Make It Mine Words and music By Torrey Bliss Copyright 2020 They taught us to play Now look they've left the stage Where did our heroes all go They'd tell us it's wrong To stop singing our song So we've gotta keep keepin' on Racing the clock and the beat won't stop And the rhythm's speedin' up with the time I'm feeling the future bearing down on me But I'm still gonna make it mine Don't shake my hand don't breath on me You know that's the way they say it's gotta be This brand new world It don't fit me I'm not quiting now I'm in way too deep Racing the clock and the beat won't stop And the rhythm's speedin' up with the time I'm feeling the future bearing down on me But I'm still gonna make it mine

ANOTHER TB classic. Your asides/spoken parts REALLY work: the tone and timbre fit the song really well. The scatting in the outro was cool too. The reduction/break down to finish was also a treat...kept me hovering - wondering if a return was coming. Excellent lyric and a terrific package of mainly Torrey made music.

Man, I wish SoundCloud had a REALLY LOVE THIS button. Like just doesn't do it. You are definitely a favorite of mine, Torrey. Really amazing how varied you music is and you always present it in such a professional and polished way. Of course it helps to be such an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. What a great sound here. I Hear what you mean about the 4-on-the-floor drums.

Top quality (as usual); hard act to follow. The outro was unusual but it worked well.
My music may not set the world on fire but if it causes a glow in just one person's heart, it has all been worthwhile

Really good stuff, Torrey! You don't really need to rely on BIAB because you are such an amazing musician. I on the other hand, need BIAB to be my whole band. While the song was half way through I was getting ready to suggest adding some surprises in the melody/production to to keep the listener engaged but then your "ooh, ooh, ooh's" came in and gave me what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing your talents!

Torrey...another stellar song...this certainly has a live band feel to it...the drums are perfect and have a very "there's a guy in the corner" playing the drums feeling...the guitar work is flawless and I'm jealous of the keyboard playing! and man I love the harmonies you add to the vocals...they are always so tasteful and tight...I appreciate what you wrote about the song (your motivation) as well as the lyrics...watching or feeling like your gifts are waning and/or not keeping up is a challenge that I am acutely aware of...so I appreciate the encouragement to "keep on keeping on"...as I try to tell the "young" people in the praise band I play with..."we play for an audience of One"...I personally need to keep track of that.
Great song and production!

More please! Janice said that listening to this certainly brought joy to her heart so please keep making this music of yours.
Awesome vocals, playing, mix and arrangement and the outro is so cool.
The Steely Dan influence on your music is always very pleasing.
Enjoyed it! Rock on.

Superb! As Robert says, just above ... what a sound. Reminds this eighties' child of Prince, a little. Congratulations - absolutely superb.
P.S. the quiet ending - ace.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
