Currently all BIAB backing instruments ( or parts/players ) excluding melody/soloist/thru are limited to just 5.

It would be cool, particularly when doing serious production to have backing tracks with more than this. often when transferring a BIAB arrangement to logic or Live i use the BIAB parts as a jumping off point, and then tweak the MIDI parts. But having just bass, drums, piano strings and guitar ( or more generically - bass, drums, keys, part1 , part 2 ) is too limiting,

For example percussion parts get mixed into the one drum track whereas it would be good to be able to put percussion hits on a seperate track.

So having radio buttons and NEW STYLES that support radio buttons : bass, piano, drums, guitar , strings, part1, part2, part3 would be cool. This is 8 MIDI backing tracks which should cover more ground stylistically. Hardware arranger style ( for yamaha, roland etc ) often support more than this. but i think just 3 more tracks would be cool.

Remember - often such extra tracks dont contain very busy stuff, just "fill in stuff" but they can make a lot of difference.

And heres a big point. Just because we now have great REAL AUDIO backing parts shouldnt diminish the usefullness of MIDI parts in an arrangement. In a huge way thy are essential for PRODUCTION since we can manipilate MIDI tracks inside our sequencers to get the precise notes, whereas ( unless we use Melodyne or such ) we typically wont want to be doing this with the RealTracks.

Also we usually end up using a different instrument plugin for the MIDI tracks to personalise our sequence production arrangements.

This good idea has surfaced many times before. Unfortunately, there are more than eight tracks in use. BIAB has additional tracks allocated for harmony (11 through 14) and for separate guitar strings. Given the limitation of one output device, it seems like it would be difficult to add three more tracks to the program.

Besides there are tons of loops, and other media to add things to a mix. Percussion is abundant. Midi allows so much to be added. a current midi piano track could be stripped and turned into so many other tracks. The possibilities are limitless.

shame. seems to me to be force to sacrifice those extra backing parts just for ( imo gimmicky ) harmonys/solo/ seperate gtr parts is bad design.

Istn BIAB meant to be about generating cool backing parts ?

Im sure some scheme could be worked out, whereby one either chooses to be in PURE BACKING TRACK mode ( ie no harmony/solo stuff - just backing tracks ) or "NOVELTY" mode, where one gets
the current 5 tracks plus harmony etc etc.

Althugh theres always loops etc, the great thing about working with BIAB parts as much as possible is that one can easily make changes to the arrangement - add/change chords etc. Once one is force to freeze stuff and work solely inside the sequencer as one must, making global changes is a lot harder.

Personally i'd like to be able to specify loops and custom MIDI snippets in our arrangements - and then have them follow any structural changes we make to a song.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
