So you are romantically strolling arm in arm with the love of your life back to your hotel room with the Eiffel Tower beautifully lit not far away and you hear a band playing outside a small café. As you get closer, you both notice that there are a dozen or so people dancing on the sidewalk. It’s a local French band playing their version of Funk on a stage under an awning. You don’t even need to discuss the matter, immediately the two of you are shaking, twisting and stepping to the groove with the others. Technicals: Style: _FUNLS16.STY Key: E BPM: 85 Me: Strings and Bells via my Korg Keyboard and my Fender Bass BiaB: Everything else Mixed in Studio One Parisian Funk PS> Not sure why, but this one was particularly challenging for me to reach satisfaction with, it was a stretch. And there’s not very many places for the bass to “hide” especially in verse 5. Anyway, comments for improvement are much appreciated. Thanks for listening. PPS> There is a lively and educational discussion (for me) called “Circle of 5ths” happening in the Woodshedding forum. I tried to apply some of this theory to this song.

For me to dance it should have a couple of BPM more, but other than that I think that's a quite unusual instrumentation for a funk song, and it works.
Accordion in a funk song...what a crazy idea. That's very very cool. Love it!

Funk staples - drums, bass & whakka wah guitar. Tempo wise - for a couple & romance this is good...quicker would be too fast for intimacy. The accordion does give some Cajun/Chanson flavour. Mix wise...I'd pull the wah guitar down a bit so it fits in with the rhythm section. Bass - nicely done Thumper...you're beginning to have the confidence to leave spaces and it works.

The accordion indeed was a surprise. But it works.
I think the bass could be slightly louder in the mix (or maybe do some EQ).
Apart from that, it sounds really nice!

Hello Thumper ...
A very interesting concept for a Funk song. But it all works together somehow. I do agree the bass could comer up just a bit to give it a richer sound. Tempo is good for me - kind of allows for the romantic flavor you described. And yes, the accordion was a surprise. I've been to Paris three times (lived in Europe almost 12 years) and you caught the flavor and ambience just right.

Alan I've been to France once but only to Calais from the White Cliffs of Dover on a day trip. In general, I'm somewhat timid of boosting the bass too much but you're the 2nd person that has mentioned it. Alan, thanks for the kind words and helpful critique.

Sure Cajun-French --and a bit of the islands, too. The accordion, although I've read about it above, was still quite a surprise --and a good one. everything about this tune is good, BT, especially the bass. I hear the cycle influence. Man, the accordion came in the second time --I really really like this, man. YEs, if I heard this as I was walking to the Eiffel lights I most definitely would've taken the inviting detour to dance with this cool sound.

I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve. Hahaha. Man, if you think you're at the bottom, you haven't looked down lately. Us bottom-feeders gotta stick together.

Well, I loved it.
If I am to offer just a tiny suggestion (and bear in mind that this is just my opinion, of course), it would be that I would have liked a little textural or dynamic variation along the way. But, then again, once the percussion section solo kicks in, you achieve that, so perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree. Still ... maybe a modulation or something? haha. Can't put my finger on it.
I still loved it, though. Nice one.

BT,
A very pleasant listen. A nice walk-with-some-dance-in-your-step tempo. The accordion did, in fact, give it a "Parisian" flavor (to my ear). Good job on the Bass! (Seemed at the prefect level in my earbuds). The Bass solo was nice - don't hear that often. The ending was cool - just a bit "bigger" with the bells - nice. Drums are at a good level.
Overall, I thought the mix was quite good.
I think you more-than-accomplished what you intended. Well done.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
