Floyd, Wow, that chorus really pops and turns the sad story into an uplifting experience. There are so many finely crafted details here; I can hear the genre mixing though, as you note, most of us on the forum don`t do modern! I listen to your lyric cadence and phrasing and am mightily impressed once again- so relaxed and polished. A really good radio-ready listen.

Definitely pop-country and very dynamic. How'd you process the bass - it's tight.
The snaps are way cool, as is that surprise ending. Your vocal conveys the emotion very well.
Your usual solid write, mix, and production:)

My word. The master of country songs at work.
"The verdict is in" = trademark Floyd inflection :-)
Contemporary country, sung by a far more mature voice than is usually the case in these songs (at least, the ones I've heard by other artists, so far). This is Floyd Jane showing what he can do :-) - and boy, what a comprehensive catalogue of skills that one is :-) VERY impressed ... you've done it again ... a virtuosic display of Floyd, from the complex (to me, at least) production, to the vocal delivery, to those yours-alone inflections on different words and notes that I enjoy so much.
Hats off.

Floyd...you stepped outside the box for this one!...another brilliant write and arrangement...sounded more pop than country to me but crossing over is what country does sometimes and you did it in a very cool way!....the percussion really carries the groove...the finger snaps (or claps or whatever they are) are such a cool effect...everything works...great vocals...so well produced! Thanks, Dan. Much appreciated... Floyd,
This song is superbly crafted and polished. Ready for airplay!
You sound great on this - just a perfect vocal / performance.
Love what you are doing these days.
Bob Thanks, Bob...

RayC < Lots of contemporary production bits which make a wonderful backing BUT the foundation of this is a classic story in a classic song sung with a classic voice. >
Further, as RnAM stated, I'm not sure this is contemporary country as I can't think of any recent artist or song that holds a candle against this piece. The sophistication of the lyrics alone belies the contemporary moniker. This song is artistry at its best and stands alone at the moment. If this work ever was in the hands of 70's power singers the likes of Gary Puckett or Dennis Yost, you'd get what I mean. This is a timeless work, one of your best.

WOW!
“a fool seldom knows what a fool he's been
until it's far too late and the verdict is in”
The lyric is so good and the imagery from daily life just grabs the listener in how profound the absence of those little things can be.
Your vocal, no surprise, is killer and could “rip the paint right off your heart.” (Janice looked at me and said, “just listen to his voice!”) The prosody is excellent also.
You seem to effortlessly master any genre with your selection of tracks and your production.
Our hats are off to you, mr. jane!

FLOYD! You not only always put out some wonderfully crafted songs with the best mix and master, with the most clever, relatable lyrics, with the best vocals and band playing the best parts of your music, you do it over and over again like a freight train that never needs fuel. Your fuel is creativity, and it runs through you in well-worn tracks of songwriting genius. Man, I am so glad to be at one of your regular stops. Whichever of your songs I'm listening to, I always feel it's even better than the last. This exceptional piece is no exception to that rule. Excellent dynamics and sing-alongable melody with a classic Country sadness.
Hope Ian ignored you. Hope you missed it. Marty - I may have to print this off and frame it! Thanks for all the great comments!! (Ian was basically a "non-event" for us. Light rain for a day and some wind. A few big gusts, but nothing that ever got "scary". Irma - 2017 - was worse for us and even that wasn't bad. We were lucky. Gotta feel bad for the Ft. Myers area).

Hello Floyd,
I was away from the forum for some months. When I came back few days ago, I noticed some things never change. Not the forum, the quality of songs and your never ending effort and succes with your new songs. Marty (above) had the words I felt when listening to this song. Very, very nice guitarplay and tension in the verses, followed by a somewhat 'suprising' chorus that made me sit straight up in my chair. Wonderful! And after that the outro was really great, with the vocals and the way the band ended like the song began.
Happy with it, Hans Thanks, Hans! Sounds like Ed Sheeran, but with much more interesting chord progression and ten times catchier chorus. Very good modern arrangement, interesting selection of RTs used very creatively. The usual story sung with good passion.
Janne Janne - I take that as a big compliment. Much appreciated!!!

Hi Floyd ...
Like Ray, "what kind of moonshine have the stars been drinking" really stands out. Excellent con temporary Country. I'm particularly impressed by the arrangement. Just so good! Really good stuff! loved it!
Alan Thanks, Alan... Fun clickity ear candy. I mean, lyrically sad. Sad, sad... that's the ticket. Nope, too upbeat for me to be sad. And like rayc, this line made me pay attention: what kind of moonshine have the stars been drinkingNice! Don't be sad, David. Hi Floyd,
We don't know if this is country. But that maybe because we are "from a different country". We hear a very, very good pop song with contemporary sounds and contemporary music! Great voice and great lyrics too.
Enjoyed the listen!
Rob and Anne-Marie Thanks! A LOT of the new Country sounds like this. But you have to listen to the records that are being put out - not just what's on the radio (which is a VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE of what is getting released)

Wonderful arrangement, and a truly excellent sonic delight.
Loved your vocals on this and all the great production touches.
Excellent in every respect.
Peter Thanks, Peter! Gosh Floyd, another good write, but man I am really impressed with the production. My personal preference has always been the older sound of country, and you've consistently proved you've got that down pat. This new country is where the money is now, and man you have a great example of it here. The words are and story are great and well put together, but the creativity you've used in putting this sound together is simply awesome. You're a man of many talents. Once again, great job and very impressive production. Much appreciated, Brad.... The groove is infectious........in the most delicious way!!!!!! It just grips you!!! The writing is amazing (I too loved the "moonshine line......ultra creative!!), and the vocal is among your best, which is saying a LOT!!! A clever, catchy, and piercing masterpiece!!!!! Take care. Greg Thanks for that, Greg....

Your lyrics are always top notch. That first verse is fantastic and drew me right in. Catchy song. Good lyrics. And it's got a good beat. What more could one want? Thanks, Scott... Love all the production in this, it didn't sound country to me at all but I only know the old stuff. Great lyrics, great singing (of course), just the right amount of emotion in your voice. Earlier in the week I had a song in my head all day long but I was too busy to pay it any mind. Finally I stopped long enough to realize it was "Good thing I gave my heart to you." That song is ear worm deluxe. Maybe this one is, too. We'll see. Thanks, Bob. ...and nice to know (or a "Good Thing...") that once in a while something leaves a lasting impression. Current Country is a BIG net. "The old stuff" is still being done by some people. Then there is the steady stream of Radio Country (that all sounds the same). BUT, there is also a LOT of Country artists that are incorporating other genre ideas (Pop, mostly) into what they are doing. It's a "different" kind of production (and a "different" kind of writing). Listening to (or at least "sampling") all the new "Country" releases opens up a lot of new avenues...

floyd,
Great Contemporary Pop Country! The arrangement at the beginning of the song is very nice. Those RealTracks are just perfect for this song. Vocals are wonderful as always. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

Thanks, Scott. The bass gets a preset from Studio One (called "Funk Bass", I think) which includes a compressor and EQ (typical for a bass). I drop out some of the low end - for clarity, to avoid too much mud...

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
