Looking forward to this one!! I just wish it ran earlier in the night. My PBS runs it at 12:30am!
Parker McCollum and Robert Earl Keen are the performers, and it's being advertised as Keen's last tour before he retires from the road.
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

Maybe it's just me, but is ACL declining? With a few exceptions, it seems to me that the last 5 or 10 years or so there's been a talent drought. I know the music culture has changed but come on where is the emotion, soul and feeling these days? These bands need to be inspired by the 60s IMHO

I love the indie bands they bring on. Those of us of a certain age just have to let go of the 60s, because as the musician start dying off so does the music. The bands they have on these days open my mind to newer stuff and I love it. If not for ACL I never would have known about Dr. Dog, The Shins, St. Vincent, The War On Drugs, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, My Morning Jacket, Imagine Dragons, Lucius...
I do love the "oldies" acts they have on but when the bring on the acts in the "venerable" category, not so much. It gets stale for me to see Willie Nelson sing his 4 real hits AGAIN. That being said, I never would have heard of his kid's band, but after seeing them on ACL, I really like what they do.
There hasn't been a talent draught as much as a generational shift.

It's not a matter of letting go, rather it's a matter of quality. I've seen too many green-haired women dressed in over-sized pajamas jumping and screaming into the mic as if the costume and bouncing can somehow make up for a lack of talent.
You mention My Morning Jacket . . . I like those guys. They're one of the exceptions I've seen on ACL. I'm Amazed at Gideon, Magic Bullet, Thank You Too and others.
But, IMHO, I think most of the stuff shared in our very own showcase is higher quality than a lot of what's aired on ACL lately.

The generation listening to these bands thinks they are high quality, and frankly, that's all that really matters. A lot of what we call "the kids" think bands like the Beatles and the Beach Boys and the Eagles were boring because they just stood there by their mics and played. That's because they grew up watching bands with 6 backing dancers, over the top stage production, and are far more eye catching. Our age appreciated ear pleasing more than eye catching.
They just had an act on with a fat girl wearing a costume that I believe may have looked better on ME than her, with her husband and bandmate just pushing a start button and then faking over exaggerated mixer knob turning that did nothing. And the crowd loved them.
I liken it, for perspective, to being a young teen and my parents not understanding why I liked The Beatles. How I could listen to that "noise". I was in a Slovenian household and if it wasn't polkas and waltzes nobody could understand it. With an older sister who was a big band fanatic, I got some balance and still love that 40s music. But by age 14 I was a rocker and never looked back. And that's why even though that fat girl in the awful outfit sounded miserable to me, I respect her for doing what she does.

And the crowd loved them. That's funny, I think I saw that duet and immediately switched to the news. It'd be one thing if these halloweeners sounded good but many don't. Good music transcends generational boundaries, that's why Beethoven, Mozart and Bach have not faded away. We might be surprised at how many 20 somethings like Neil Diamond, The Beatles, Boz Scaggs and other music from "by-gone" eras. A good way I've discovered to hear new bands is Pandora. If you have a broad enough stations list sooner or later new stuff will creep in that you can up-thumb. A separate and interesting thread might be "What music are you listening to today?" I'm certain there is much good stuff out there we haven't heard of yet and it would be fun to learn what others enjoy.

I caught this show last night and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I never heard of either band but enjoyed Keen's band especially. Specifically his drummer, bass player and dude on lead guitar/fiddle were outstanding. He's a good story teller and announced he's retiring. He kind of reminded me of BB King in that he sat on a chair. PS> There was no screaming green hair last night

We watch the occasional new ACL and many of the older ones. And, as streamers, we watch them at times of our choosing. We are in general fans of that big tent Americana (big REK fans)and listen/watch daily. What I love about the streaming platforms is we can live in our preferred genre bubble and seemingly never exhaust the resources. However Apple Music tosses enough new stuff at us to allow discovery of engaging artists we were not familiar with.
Music internet bubbles … good.
Political internet bubbles … bad

If you grew up in Texas Austin City Limits was sort of like watching the six O clock news. Just something you did.
The quality of the audio and the selection of musicians has always been top-notch. Things change and new people come to the stage. It is hard to imagine that many of these new performers will ever have the impact and lasting quality that many of the older players have. Some will I assume.
I have been paying attention to commercials on TV lately. Most of the music is pretty "old school". It does depend on the target.
The really good thing about music in today's world is there is something for everyone.
Austin City Limits is the longest-running musical show on TV. My guess is that it will evolve with the times.

I used to really like watching Austin City Limits. It was primarily country and alt country with a lot of big names and soon to be big names. It seemed that during those days Marty Stewart was a regular on there until he moved to Nashville and became a regular on the Opry.
I have a bunch of VHS tapes with dozen of really great shows. Sadly I don't have a VHS player connected to the TV anymore. My collection of Ren and Stimpy is awesome too.
Now days, it's still on PBS and when we're browsing for something to watch, we'll often see it and pause to see who's being featured. 90% of the time we'll listen for a minute and shake our heads and continue browsing. What I've heard there really doesn't get me going enough to want to watch and listen and I think I'm fairly open minded about music that's perhaps not what one would call "mainstream" music. I wonder how some of those acts got onto a stage with that kind of exposure with the kind of talent (or lack thereof) they are displaying.
Anyway... just my 2 cents worth.
Now days, AXIS TV has some pretty decent shows once in a while. And you can find anything including full concerts, with HD video and crystal sound on YouTube.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Herb, if you REALLY want to watch those Ren & Stimpy tapes, every pawn shop in the country has VCRs for almost nothing...

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
