Can someone please tell me how I can export the chords as MIDI so that I can import into GP?

This will work with all BiaB MIDI and or all RealTracks (RT) with a line under it. The line means there is a MIDI file contained with the RT. The RT MIDI file will only contain the RT notes, thus all articulations are lost.

1-drag the master to DAW, #2 on picture
3-drag the + sign to your DAW. Some DAWs require that you drag the + sign to a folder first.

If your song has MIDI, RTs with the MIDI file, AND RTs with no MIDI file then you must do each instrument separately. That is you can not use the master but must use bass, then piano, etc.

I hope this helps.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Consider MusicXML as an alternative. It can sometimes be a better format.

Yes, export as Music XML.

This assumes GP, whatever that is, can import Music XML.

All replies have been very helpful! Oddly Guitar Pro dumps all chords when you import MIDI. But XML works like a charm smile

Very good.

You could go back to your first post and Mark as Resolved.

The answer is actually in your question. You cannot export chord info as MIDI. The MIDI standard, even the new one coming, does not include chord symbols so there is nothing the file can export! Some programs like BIAB can interpret a MIDI file and guess the chords, but they may guess wrong. Music XML does send the chord names but it is not 100% because the export may be simplified. There’s more to it (there’s always more) but you have a working solution.

You seem to want only the Chords but if you not the entire performance track, Mario has you covered.

Or are you asking for Option 1: chord names from the chart, such as CMaj or Bm7b5. Or Option 2: do you want the block midi notes for the chords, such as C-E-G or B-F-A-D.

Option 1, Matt explained.
Option 2, is actually a new feature in BIAB 2022 which is set in Preferences for Chord Chart Midi Output.

Or do you already have your question answere, in which case nevermind. Welcome to the forum.

It's worth remembering that MIDI is an format for sending play data to or from a musical instrument, not a format for musical notation. It focuses on the individual notes, their velocity, their timing and assorted instrument controls. A chord name doesn't really fit in to that concept.

Music XML is designed to handle notational elements as well as the above, so is much better suited to handling things like chord names.

The obvious downside is that Music XML is also pretty complex and isn't always generated or processed as well as it might be. As it's also an SGML format, rather than the very compact raw data of MIDI, the files are also much larger.

For the life of me I CANNOT FIND HOW TO MAKE THIS WORK.

ALL I WANT is the chords from BIAB so I can use them in EZKeys (or elsewhere).
This used to work and let you write to a file. I can't find that anymore. (Output Chords - Preferences - no "write to file" option)

FJ, there are several ways to move chords from BIAB to EZkeys. And Yes, the "save as a midi file" still is there. You can use that and then Just Drag&Drop to the track in EZKeys. Or you can go to the preference and turn on Output chords to externa MIDI out during playback. And select what Utility track you want them written to. Then you can drag and drop that track from the mixer to EZKeys.

If this does not work for you, then I will make a video to illustrate the multiple ways to

OK, just a heads up - now that you turned on the "chords to midi track", it will stay on until you turn it off. That means the specified utility track will now always be playing the chords as block or leading (as you selected). So you have to turn it off if and when you don't want it.

And regarding the search feature, I only have normal intelligence and no control over artificial intelligence.

By the way, how are you enjoying EZKeys2? The more I use it the more I am loving it. The ability to send midi out from EZKeys2 to any other VSTi, has changed my whole work flow. All my midi editing can now be done in EZKeys2.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
