Howdy everyone….

Ken and I have just finished a new collaboration. (thanks Ken) On the title….I thought I could flesh out something strictly from my imagination. I couldn’t do it to my satisfaction. Hence….I had to reference an experience by someone I know pretty well. Ken described it perfectly, it’s "a cautionary tale".
I'd guess some here could relate. Thanks to any that stop by and give a listen…..hope you found it worthy of your time.

Verse1: Young and restless, it’s time to move on. A broken family, I’m done with it all. Like the loner with little to say. I’ll catch you later, maybe someday. It might be crazy, but I have a plan. “Well come on in son and raise your right hand.” I had my reasons and the time was right. I made my reservation and said my good byes'.
Chorus: If you’re looking for a desperate escape, I have a suggestion. Be careful what you wish for it might be dangerous lesson.
Verse 2: It won’t be easy and it won’t be safe. What I was chasing was a double edged blade. It will be risky and no guarantees. If you jump in the river, better flow with the stream. Where it takes me, I don’t have a clue. If you want to be a man you have a whole lot to prove. Pay close attention and follow the rules. Don’t expect to have a room with a view.
Chorus: If you’re looking for a desperate escape, I have a suggestion. Be careful what you wish for it might be dangerous lesson.
Lead break:
Verse 3: Standard issue. Just follow the rest. What lies ahead could be anyone’s guess. I wanted some action, here’s what he said: “We got you covered”….they gave me a vest. Approaching the gangway to choppers on deck. My load is heavy and I’m breaking a sweat. I climbed aboard with a knot in my gut. It’s my last operation, will I run out of luck?
Chorus: If you’re looking for a desperate escape, I have a suggestion. Be careful what you wish for it might be a dangerous lesson.
Verse 1 (repeat 2 lines only): Young and restless, it’s time to move on. A broken family, I’m done with it all. Like the loner with little to say. I’ll catch you later, maybe someday.

Howdy Torrey....

Many thanks for taking the time to spin it and the very kind words.
Don't tell anyone but this song is personal so I was a bit apprehensive about uploading it.
But....sometimes, we just have to throw our efforts against the forum wall and hope our peers find them worthy.

Thanks again amigo....hope all is well.

Joe Bonamassa type of blues song with great groove, catchy melody, excellent guitar playing and good vocals. Lyrically has many nice lines like "If you jump in the river, better flow with the stream", the verse 3 is really standout.

I like your song, especially the lyrics and how you deliver them.
The arrangement is good, the mix is solid but a bit restrained, could have a bit more bottom end.

PS: I watched the video and at the end it says in the copyright notice "Sept. 22, 2023". Do you guys have a time machine?

Howdy gents....

Janne.....
We thank your for giving a listen and the kind comments.
We appreciate it.
I enjoyed writing it but it is a personal song and I had mixed feelings about uploading it.

B.D.....
Oh jeez....I'm an idiot....it's embarrassing. smile
Thanks for catching it.
Can't change that now without deleting, editing and re-uploading.
Guess my blatant oversight will be there for another year for any listeners to shake their head at.
Thanks much for listening and your perception about the mix.
It's all appreciated.

Thanks again to you both for checking it out and commenting.

Good mix, good arrangement and a good vocal.
Interesting narrative - the experience/recruitment model that keeps the US military afloat.
I thought the song could've used a dynamic change..mainly tempo...for the standard issue verse.
Cool.

Cheers

G'day mate....

Thank you sir for giving it a spin and commenting favorably.

Yep....an unfavorable home life leads to BIG life decisions at a young age.
I have no regrets.

I don't know ray....a 'tempo' change in just one verse could really take a away from the prevailing groove & pensive mood of the song as a whole.
But...what do I know!....I have been wrong in the past. smile

We appreciate your take on it and chiming in.

Wayne, you and Ron came up with another beauty. A cautionary tale for sure, and so well said in those lyrics. I love the feel of this fun song. Some outstanding guitars in there, and the vocal is a good bluesy sound. Good choice on the electric piano. A great idea for a song, and an excellent production.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Howdy justanoldmuso....

Yeah...Ken is fine axe player and I feel quite fortunate to have his contributions.
I'm very pleased you found it worthy of your time.
Good luck to your with your music endeavors for 2023.

Howdy Marty....
Guess my vocal passed the loudness test in the mix on this one. smile
It was a interesting topic to consider but I struggled at first.
Out of pure stubbornness, once I got on the lyric train I finished it in a couple of days.

Ken and I thank you both sincerely for taking the time to spin it.
It's much appreciated when one's peers chime in and comment favorably.

A great weekend to all....

Wow. This is cinematic.

It is a familiar sounding story (from Bud’s life perspective) and you’ve painted a vivid picture here.

Great vocals and guitars. Love the solo.
The groove (a bit of a swing/shuffle hybrid to our ears) is really good and makes you feel the adventure.

Nice mix with the performances and BiaB - sounds like a well honed band.

Kudos!

Excellent work some great playing.

In my headphones the guitar solo is a bit soft - could come up a bit (not sure I'm someone to say that given I get that a lot!)

Nice work all round.

Well good mornin' J&B....

Bud...I know, you're an old fossil too and glad you can relate. smile
I'm pleased the imagery is there....that's always been my lyrical focus.
Of course, weather I succeed at that or not isn't determined by me.
I frequently refer to my 'adventure' as a 13 month picnic. smile
Absolutely!....the back up band is stellar.

Howdy Peter....

Thank you both very much for taking the time to listen and comment favorably.

Have a great day everyone....

Hi Wayne and Ken,

I enjoyed this song very much - good lyrics and catchy beat.

Only a couple of minor suggestions - I would love to hear your vocals in the verses 1Db high and the guitar solo 2Db higher.
Harmony Vocals in the chorus .5Db higher.

You are singing well so why not feature the vocals and lyrics.

Best Regards
Nigel

Reveille! Good mornin' all....

Howdy Mario....
Thanks very much for checking it out and the very generous comments.
When shuffling around for the right 'style' as soon as I heard it I know that was it.
Then a quick CONTROL/S before I get lost in my search. smile

Howdy Nigel....
I thank you also for giving it a spin, the kind comments and your specific perceptions of the mix.
All comments are welcome.
Should I revisit the mix I'll have your notes to refer to.

Thanks again to you both for your time.

Have a great day....

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
