Honestly don't know if I knew this or not.
Seems it used to work but today I find it is not working. The two utility tracks which I used to hold midi in BIAB are not there when I open the .mgu in the BIAB-VST in my DAW. This has been such a long term issue hard to keep track. Can anyone confirm or remind me?

Are you selecting the Util track in the Mixer first ?  Zoom++

I am creating the entire song in BIAB which includes several Utility tracks. I then save the .mgu file. Next I open it in BIAB-VST within reaper and the utility tracks are not there. In addition the midi patche on the melody track is not the save patch the file was saved with. But that latter is just BIAB being BIAB.

are you just doing a regular bb save before opening in bb plug in OR try SAVE SPECIAL >>> WITH PATCHES.
before useing plug in. just an idea to try.
otherwise i dont know. i always save with patches and never regular save cos its tripped me up in the past doing such.

BBW4 should be able to open a saved frozen SGU/MGU and the you should get identical tracks in the BIAB-VST.

I honestly thinks it's easier to drag the tracks from Biab main directly onto the tracks in the Plugin (forget BBW4), this way you get the exact same tracks, honestly it's not worth going through all the stress and frustration, IT JUST WORKS.
You can keep dragging new tracks that you have edited in Biab with Alt+F8 to update the Plugin track and it will still keep all other instances in the SaveTracks folder that you can go back to if need be.

You are preaching to the choir. I could not agree with you more! However, I have wanted this BIAB-VST to work for going on 5 years now. I feel like Ahab and this is my white whale. I have tried to kick it before, but I keep coming back. I guess I am addicted to it. Does this sound a bit familar to you, musocity?

Regarding the thread title. I have done some testing and confirmed Utility Tracks from BIAB file are gone when the file is opened in the BIAB-VST.

Hi,
I have put together a song with two RT utility tracks added then saved as an SGU
When I open the SGU in the VST Plugin both utility tracks are showing and after generating are still there.
I'm using the BIAB VST Plugin v5.1.4

Hi,

Brian I am on V5.1.6 ! Could that be it? Or perhaps the .sgu versus the .mgu I used. Or perhaps it is the style.. or the RTs or the midi... to many use-specific variables impacting this VST. But thanks for the info. I am going to try 5.1.4 now.

OK, I tried the 5.1.4 and no utility tracks BUT... I noticed you said RTs and I am using Midi tracks. So I switched to a RT on the Utility Track and that worked as you say.
So the problem is MIDI! Damn, I think I knew that already but had just forgotten. With all the use-specific requirements - its not "all tracks are the same", going on 5 years, it is hard to keep up this app.

Brian Well Brian, that just makes me angry  ... 1 question, are you in Reaper? Otherwise, BIAB has a long history of inconsistent user's experience. Can't tell you how many times I have seen, "...works here" versus "...doesn't work here?" I call it programing with too many use-specific actions. I really have to stop working with this BIAB-VST. There must be a 12-point program out there for addicts like me.

Have they fixed the Midi Only generation in 5.1.4 or 5.1.6 yet ?
5 years on it should be working by now ?

Let me restate the problem statement:
Utility tracks with MIDI present in the BIAB song files, are not present when the file is opened in the BIAB-VST in REAPER!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
