Love Song in Reverse

This is just a simple country-like song. I wanted to write a song that changes key in the chorus by going up a minor third to see how it would work. Production is simple too.

Style is STUNR2, but I replaced the drum with Drums on Demand.

Lyrics

I can’t say there’s anything left to say
There’s nothing left
at the end of the day
With you, two and two ain’t four
The game is over and
you don’t know the score

I know this might not be your first
I got to get over this curse
I can’t take you for better or worse
I’m gonna send you this love song in reverse

The whispered way between a boy and a girl
You take it and make it
the news of the world
Won’t take my time walking out the door
Silence is gold and
That’s why you're so poor

I know this might not be your first
I got to get over this curse
I can’t take you for better or worse
I’m gonna send you this love song in reverse

Scott,
You are good! Fun tune. Fun lyrics. Listens very well. Those key changes & breaks worked very well. Catchy stuff. Clear mix. Enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing.
Misha.

P.S. It might sound strange, but one of your songs: "To Be With You" was in my playlist for a long time. I probably heard it several dozen of times. One of my favorites of yours.

Exactly as you described it - good write, simple but effective arrangement, fun listen! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

A fun narrative and a good arrangement to carry it...the key changes work.
My only nit is the "gonna" in "I’m gonna send you this love song in reverse" & purely because you have or are sending it.
The character voices fitted the description.

Well, I'd say it worked like a dream, Scott. A cool country feel, and I love the whole idea of a love song in reverse. I take that back, right? Excellent lyrics and so well sung. Evolve starts with love in reverse.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Great one Scott! Really liked it, loved the hook and the writing. Favorite line: "Won’t take my time walking out the door
Silence is gold and that’s why you're so poor" - I literally laughed out loud. I like it a lot just as it is, though I confess I think a couple more instruments might sound good too - just a thought. Great one to hear from you,

Brad

Misha,

Thanks. I'm glad you like that other old song. I've been wondering who's been listening to it. It's nice to have a song of mine on someone's playlist.

Thanks, Ray. I understand what you are saying about the "gonna" section and thought about that when I finalized the lyrics. I originally had "I'm sending you..." but I like the sound of the "gonna" line better, and thought it fit the persona better. I appreciate your feedback.

Scott,

Really cool song man.

It is as great as is but I have a few ideas just as ideas.

1. Sing it straight in your natural voice.

2. Start it on acoustic and add electrics in chorus.

Good job man!!

Ezekiel:

Great write—some real cool and clever lines in this one (“The whispered way between a boy and a girl / You take it and make it the news of the world”—great stuff!). Arrangement and bad are all good—no nits here from me. At first, the vocal, while excellent, struck me as not fitting the tune . . . but actually by the end I was thinking it was perfect for the tune given the write. Really nice work on this!

All my best to you,

Deej

Your experiment worked out perfectly as this is a great song.
I liked your vocal in this one and in fact I wouldn't change a thing on this song.
Loved those lyrics!
"I can’t take you for better or worse
I’m gonna send you this love song in reverse" ..Brilliant
Great groove and mix also.

Thanks, Brad. I like to sing the line to my wife, and she gives me the look---good naturedly, of course.

Hi Scott,

That key change worked a treat! I need to try that sometime.

Cool song, I like the concept. Great vocal, and that guitar is right on the money.

As far as the production goes, simple is almost always better in my book wink

Good one, enjoyed.

Clever write. Funny lyrics, especially "Silence is gold and That’s why you're so poor". The key change works very well, makes the chorus really pop up, catchy melody also. Simple but very likable instrumentation. Very expressive vocals.

thanks for the production tip, Dave. Singing-wise, it's just not as fun when I sing it in my natural voice.
