Hello folks, I was unable to edit the original post so had to drop in a new one. THANK YOU to those who lent ears & expertise to the mix's development. The end result, though pleasing none of you completely, incorporates much of what was offered. The ME opted to "roll off the edges" to give it a "vibe". I like his decision & the result: All Night Tears by Alan, Alison & ray For those who like a pun I offer:

Excellent, the vocals are much better and you put the guitar licks in the right places between the vocals. The strings at the end sound a bit artificial (I'd drop them), but that won't bother anyone (except me ) who has listened this far. 2 thumbs up, Al will love it!
Ray, What Dave said about the noise. +1 I like how strings mixed in from 4:09 to 4:49 but right at the end, as B.D. mentioned they sound a bit strange. Otherwise excellent! Definitely one of best tunes in your library.
Quite an improvement I think, Ray. Overall just an excellent slow blues, and man, I really love her voice! I think your mix is spot on, vocal sitting right where it should. And the bass sounds much better too. There is a bit of noise right at the beginning of the song just before the guitar intro that you might want to get rid of. Other than that, yeah, sounds great!
I haven't topped n tailed any stuff for yonks. When I finally get around to putting together an "album" I shall do. I did ask the ME to leave that stuff in as sometimes it can get a bit of a vibe. Thanks Dave.

Thanks B.D.T, The "strings" are via Mellotron and are as a 'Tron sounds: grainy, a bit of wow, flutter and tape noise. it's me trying to place the song into a time & place, (late 60s tape nest). I'd agree & drop them if they were not Tron. Peopel "of a certain age" will recognize them I suspect. Here's a classic use...

Thanks Misha, yes, the graininess of the Tron strings, (well Tron string quartet + orchestra + cello - some from tape -> wav conversion and some via the Mel9), is very clear when they are naked at the end.

This sounds great, Ray. The guitar fills are just right and Janice said they’re like “cries for help” too. We liked the tag of the last line repeated and we also liked the strings following it. They added to the poignancy for us. Excellent! J&B
Thank you J & B, It's cool when any instrument comes close to the human voice. The end vocal tag was a really good idea from someone with excellent ears & taste.

Hey Ray, If there was an original post I think I missed it so I don't know who Alan and Alison is, neither do I know what "MST" means. Plus I can't tell from this post what is BiaB and what is not plus I couldn't understand some of the vocal lines as the lyrics weren't provided. (I know, lots of confusion).
All that said, I really like this. She (or it, if it's a bot) has a great voice, I love the slow blues vibe, it's highly melodic, great bass line, the mix is spot-on and I love those strings.
IMHO this is the best I've heard from you and your team. . . . Great job.
https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677 BiaB 2024 Windows For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
Ray, this is absolutely fantastic. Everything is spot on! Perfect blending of the vocals and guitars. Great harmonies. Loved those mellotron strings. Super mix.
PS - I have that King Crimson album also!
I want my last spoken words to be "I hid a million dollars under the........................"

Thanks Bass Thumper, Alan David created the blues instrumental, I wrote a lyric based on it & Alison wrote a melody to fit both & sang it. All BIAB but for the bass & vocal. Thank you.

Thanks Mario, I know a lot of people under 50 don't hear Mellotron as anything but a grainy sample but they do spark some magic for KC, Moody Blues etc. fans. I even have a BluRay 5.1 of the album and one day will own a BluRay player that hooks up to my ancient Yamaha receiver so I can play it. In the meantime the stereo LP & the digital quad will have to do.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
