Hello my Biab's friends,

I am posting on this forum a small instrumental composition with a special touch linked to the marching band. Trying to recreate the atmosphere of a street band is not easy. Already the street band, like it or not, but your opinion is important to me in the search for new styles made with our favorite tool Biab. Tools used Biab Vst for orchestration and partially for melody research. Otherwise orchestral vst were used for mixed brass ensembles. Please comment. all criticisms here are always constructive to enable us to improve

Derochette,
fun listen. A bit repetitive, but memorable melody. Nice segments with orchestral instruments. It is cool as a project, but I think it might benefit from secondary theme for variation. Thank you for sharing.

I like the complex movement of the melody and the harmonic accompaniment. Majestic sound! Interesting to my ears. What's with the gong at the end? Seems a little out of place.

Hi Rustyspoon,

You're right, it's a bit repetitive. Having few ideas for the variation, I decided to shorten the composition to reduce this redundancy and to rework the end. Thank you again for your wise advice.

Hi Ezekiel's Storm,

Thank you for listening and for your comment on this particular style of street band. I took your advice and removed the inappropriate gong.

Odd, but interesting.
I think the repetitive melody is fine because the movement is quite complex in itself and the repetitions give you something to hold on to.

I'm not sure a marching band could really march to that rhythm, though grin

Janice’s initial reaction was that it reminded her of Mason Williams’ “Classical Gas” that she remembered from playing in her high school band. smile

This is quite majestic and the mix sounds great on our monitors.

Well done!

That was my first thought also.

I was in a marching band for 5 years and this really doesn't sound like a marching band. This sounds like a brass and woodwind orchestra and I mean that is a very complimentary way.

Nice melody and instrumentation.
As mentioned a little variety could help. Maybe add some strings to complete the orchestra. YMMV

Loved this Jani. I as well like the repetitiveness of the song as it allowed me to search out the different instrumentation and their placements within the song. Loved how you mixed this. All the instruments so identifiable. Such a big sound. I started my music journey in a marching band. I was third clarinet. When I practiced my parts they made no musical sense but when all put together was a very cool sound. Well done...

Hi B.D.Thomas,

it's true that the melody is a bit repetitive but it was difficult to make too many variations given the number of instruments in action. Thinking about it, I agree with your opinion on a marching band. Thank you for your comment.

Cool piece, I like the changes. The melody also reminds me of Classical Gas in places, mothing wrong with that though. Overall, nice work!

Hi Janice & Bud,

I was listened to Classical Gas which is a musical masterpiece next to my little composition. Even if the rhythm is different, I had to be inspired by it without wanting to plagiarize in the first rhythmic part. Thank you for the link of this great music and for your comment. Ps: I love your avatar with your nice dog.

Derochette,

Even though I'm not qualified to give any advice on Orchestral work, I do know when I hear music that has been skillfully put together and this certainly hits the mark! Everything you share is always very high-quality work and appreciated by me!

Thanks, TB

The declamatory nature of the intro melody makes this a little like Fanfare for the Common man meets Classical Gas.
The marching aspect isn't as clear cut as I expected.
Cool piece though.

Cheers

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
