Been awhile. Up to my ears with projects.

Here is a lyric I wrote over 20 years ago that I set to music two months ago. Arranged and recorded the same day, I filed it away. I came across it today and thought I would share.

https://fredgrittner.bandcamp.com/track/as-if-i-really-knew-you

As If I Really Knew You

As if I really knew you
As if you really cared
My heart has had a breakdown
It can’t be repaired
I came to see you Sunday
By Monday you were gone
As if I really knew you
As if you were the one

As if I saw it coming
As if I turned my eyes
I courted every favor
I didn’t get the prize
For me it all makes sense now
You bounced the ball so high
As if I saw it coming
As if I’d broke the tie

Lost all sense of direction
What’s false is possibly true
I’ve got another thing coming
I can see that it’s coming from you

As if the night becomes you
As if the day betrays
You mentioned once in passing
Love’s an endless maze
At last I solved the puzzle
You ditched the doubts I’d shown
As if I heard the footsteps
As if I called the loan
As if I really knew you
As if you were the one

Deceptively simple arrangement carried along by a strong lyric. Great voice that it well-suited to the genre. Two thumbs up!

Fred, this is really good.
I really enjoyed your vocal and guitar.
Outstanding backing band that fits the song perfectly.
This is a super song.

Good vocal and harmony.

Band arrangement and mix sound good.

A bit of a haunting feel in the melody, which makes it interesting.

Hi Fred ...

This is the first I've heard from you in a very long time. I always enjoy your work. And this is no exception. I love that full, soft vocal you always have.

Nice arrangement and backing tracks. Crisp and striking. The vocal harmony was excellent. Super nice!

Sounds great in headphones, sandwiched between two guitars.

Melodic and catchy. Nice. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it has been awhile. I am close to releasing a bunch of songs that might interest some of the forum members. The 2023 version has some great new features involving RealTracks--regenerating bar by bar is very cool. The demixed horn, vocal, and string quartets sound much, much better when you can mix each part.

Anyway, thanks again, Alan

This has a laid back feel ala JJ Cale and yet it also has a mysterious feel. Very enjoyable!

We’re glad you rediscovered the fine lyric and the quick finish of the song and production sound great.

Your resonator playing was perfect for it.

Enjoyed it!

Thanks, J&B. I have been listening to your recent songs and find them well-produced and, of course, distinguished by Janet's amazing voice!

Melancholy story with many nice lines like "love's an endless maze".
Straightforward folk shuffle rhythm drives the song. Beautiful melody and enjoyable chord progression, I really like the guitar fills.
Simple but working arrangement, reminds me bit of Mark Knopfler. Good vocals with nice nuances.

Thank you, Janne. It's interesting to read how others tag you: JJ Cale, Mark Knopler, etc. Everybody has their own point of reference. I've been said to be a bit like Clapton as well. Who knows? That is what makes music so interesting--no one measuring tape.

Fred

Really like the melody and your vocal, Fred. The subtle harmony works perfectly. Cool Bridge and, man, those lyrics are terrific. Well done on the mix, too. I dig the resonator, too.

Enjoy whatever happens!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
