Bruce was kind of a local sensation back in the early 70's when he was playing the local scene in Jersey. I was born and raised in NJ and was a high school senior in 72. Those first 2 albums were quite the buzz in South Jersey at the time. I remember distinctly where I was and who was there, when I first heard Greetings from Asbury Park. Second floor apartment of a friend in Stratford NJ in the summer.
To me, the first 3 albums are the quintessential Springsteen required listening. The lyric writing puts Bruce among my favorite lyricists of all time. He puts you in the place where you can hear the switchblade flick open, the sounds of the city at night, the smells and the tastes, the heat, and of course, the sand under the boardwalk with the sound of the fireworks in the distance and the amusement pier roller coaster rider's screams.....and Sandy.... ah yes, Sandy. So bittersweet. His work in later years was good but nothing like the hunger you feel and hear in his early work.
regarding the video.... I think a lot of that was a stretch to connect the dots.

"She's The One" is Bo Diddly not Elvis, just sayin'. The Shave & A hair cut riff is pretty clear. I don't know E.P. terribly well but I don't recall much on the Bo in his work where as Buddy Holly wasn't a stranger to him and the Stones used Bo to upgrade Buddy.
