You Can’t Shape My Dreams

Our latest is a simple “two verses, chorus and I’m outta here” little ditty. But it was fun and we hope you find it to be also. If interested your time to listen and comment is most appreciated. Thanks to PG Music and our music partner Peter.

Janice: lead/harmony vocals, melody and arrangement
Bud: arrangement, mix, mastering, lyric and photo
Peter: guitar solos/fills, guitar mix, and arrangement

Vocals: Rodes mic > Scarlett interface > Izotope Nectar (Izotope Vocal Doubler on harmony)

Drums: RealDrums NashvilleRadioShuffle > Waves CLA Drums
Snare (doubled) > Waves Magma BB T
Cymbal (doubled) > Logic Pro X ChromaVerb

Bass: RealTrack 3566 Electric,
NashvilleRadioShuffleA > Waves Bass Rider > Izotope Neutron 3

Rhythm Guitar: RealTrack 3702 AmericanaShuffleBrent > Logic Pro X ChromaVerb

Piano: RealTrack 2124 Acoustic, Rhythm CountryShuffleJohn > Waves CLA Unplugged > Ozone Imager

Mix: Logic Pro X
Mastering Chain: (Ozone Modules) Dynamic EQ > Vintage EQ > Imager > Maximizer > Tonal Balance 2 > Logic Pro Loudness Meter > www.loudnesspenalty.com

Other stuff:
We were auditioning a few BiaB Americana based styles when we ran across a demo for which we much liked the progression … so we appropriated it smile A first for us as we typically work up our own. And, yes, there is an unusual chord present smile

The lyric is on SC.

Catchy bouncing groove. Nice tasty guitar links. Good harmonica in the vocal lines.

Janice, Bud & Peter,

What a great song! Love the tempo and arrangement. Some very cool instrumental & vocal phrasing - really awesome.

Crisp and clean production - perfect and completely suits the song.

"I KNOW MY WAY AROUND THE TOLLS AND TROLLS
I’M GONNA FLY, GONNA CHASE THOSE DREAMS
DON’T THINK ABOUT TRYING TO CLIP MY WINGS

That's some great writing!

Loved it!

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Hey You Three ...

As always, a stellar song and production. Exceptional lyrics. Bob already commented on the lyrical portion that really appealed to me. Peter just plays the heck out of ya'll's songs. Everything is spot-on. Of course, there's never a doubt of that being otherwise.

A real nice, peppy empowerment song. This is a little different than your typical production, but different in a delicious way!

Lots to like here. Best to all of you.

That's one spirited song. Peter's interjections really add to the UP vibe.
Terrific writing & performance all 'round.
COOOOL.
It gave off some of the vibe of the "other" tracks on A Night At The Opera.

Janice, Bud, and Peter, when I see these three names together I know I'm in for some really great ear candy!

Outstanding vocal, guitar, and mix.
Peter always knows what to play to enhance your songs.
We all know that Janice could sing the dictionary and it would sound great!
Bud's mixes are always professional.
What more could we ask for?

I guess this is thematically the country version (I hope it's actually country) of my song "A world is waiting for me" smile

Very catchy, gets my feet moving.
As always, Janice's voice is what I love the most, but the production and guitars aren't bad either smile

Great work by the three of you!

Hey, you guys, I have a request. Take a random page from an old phone book, and you folks will turn it into a hit. What another beauty you have here. Such enthralling vocals and a pleasingly fun guitar in an excellent mix of a wonderfully uplifting-in-spite-of-the-apparent-anchors song in the "a simple 'two verses, chorus and I’m outta here' little ditty" style. You make it sound easy, but we know it as incredibly good work.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Janice and Bud,

Pretty fun ditty all the way around! Great solo guitar to match the awesome vocals. Love the surprise slide vocals in V2! My ears were expecting a different rhyme scheme for the chorus (AA-BB) but it didn't take away from the song. Great job!

Wowf. That left me off-kilter. wink

I love the bouncy feel and the mix, and the guitar is inventive.

And Janice is always a delight to listen to.

But the song refuses to play by the rules, and I'm a lazy listener.

Still, a fun listen, and well done!

I'd pay to see this band! Everything is clear, has it's space, and fills in to make the sound complete. Great talent and execution are what make this song sound effortless...which takes a lot of effort in years of honing skills.

Love the melodic and harmonic choices. SO cool! 2:39 was brilliant as well just flat out cool. The guitar helps to make this track feel like a unified band with some fantastic choices in playing.

All 3 of you should be feeling good about this one! Thanks for sharing it!

Cool one. This one stands out to me as being one of the better ones I have heard from you in a while. The simple ABAB style works well.

There are no unusual chords. Just chords that others tend to not use as much as they could. I liked it a lot. Keep putting those unique chords in unexpected places. They don't work in every song and in every circumstance but when they do, it's a thing of beauty.

Too much FUN, y'all!
"Light-hearted" - not a term I'd associate with your bread-and-butter. But this one is thoroughly painted with Light Hearted! And y'all do it well.

The BAND is Tight. And Fun.
Peter weaves his way through perfectly.

The MIX is Luscious. Crystal.

Janice is...Janice. Which means Perfection. Always.
Killer Harmonies.

So. Much. Fun.

Always pleasure to hear also a lighter side of J&B smile Upbeat, self-confident and smoothly rolling ahead, many nice lines in the lyrics like "my routes aren't on an app but they endure".
Enjoyable chord progression especially in the chorus section.
The vocals, guitar playing and the mix are on top quality level as always, sounds very effortless for you to stay there a song after another smile

Hi Janice, Bud and Peter,

What a joyful song!
It was pure pleasure listening to it.
Peter did a great job with those swirling solos throughout the song
The band is terrific and Janice? Great as ever.
Always enjoy her singing about nasty guys (DON ’T TRY TO FIND ME ON YOUR OLD MAP, JOY IS MY PATH)

Yes, I still have that smile on my face while typing these words.
Love it,

J&B + Peter,
Excellent uplifting groove on this tune. Super lyrics! Ace vocals. It seems Janice is very comfortable singing this. Peter's parts sound very natural. Mixed very well. Personally, I think this is one of your best in 2023. Enjoyed it very much and thank you for sharing.

The band is terrific and Janice? Great as ever.
Always enjoy her singing about nasty guys (DON ’T TRY TO FIND ME ON YOUR OLD MAP, JOY IS MY PATH)

Yes, I still have that smile on my face while typing these words.
Love it,

Hans

Putting a smile on your face is great. Especially when you’re hearing about another nasty guy! smile smile

We all appreciate the kind review.

Hi Janice, Bud and Peter,

Pretty catchy melody that puts you in a good mood. The arrangement and orchestration are well thought out and well done. It's pleasant. I appreciated.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
