My Nerdy Girl

I wrote this song originally 15 years ago and it shows in the somewhat outdated lyrics smile I think I had the melody playing in my head after I woke up one morning, just like a Ramones song, but I haven't found their song which I could have inadvertently copied... my friend said that it reminded of Weezer, but also no Weezer song sounded similar, so I hope the melody is original enough laugh

I have made several versions of the song during the years, revised the lyrics, used different Vocaloids and different RealTracks when the technology has advanced, but I hope this is the final rendering of it, at least those RTs fit perfectly and the Synthesizer V vocalist Kevin has young enough voice for the story. Maybe you don't like the genre or the lyrics are too explicit, but I hope this tune puts you in a good mood smile

Lyrics:
Lonely in the high school cafeteria
listening to the brainless cheerleaders
Living my life in complete anaesthesia
I was one of those geeks, math book readers.
Then my eye caught a goblin haired laptop girl
coding and reading her mail
I wanted to be brave and give her a whirl
she couldn't be another fail.

I have met my perfect match
she's my nerdy girl
She knows for loops, try and catch
she writes C and perl.
She can hack into the school computer
raise my physics grade
I love her, I could never find cuter
she promised that I will get laid.

We had so much pleasure playing Silent Hill
she was not shy or scared of horror movies
it was my spring and her nickname was April
flowers blossomed in the hearts of the goofies.
We exchanged zero day exploits, accesswords
slept in the green sunny park
learned new things from the bodies of the young nerds
had sinful hours in the dark.

I have met my perfect match
she's my nerdy girl
She knows for loops, try and catch
she writes C and perl.
She can hack into the school computer
raise my physics grade
I love her, I could never find cuter
she promised that I will get laid.

It was almost seven in the morning
in my bliss I just could not note her leaving
she'd been too nice, I was blind to the warning
should have seen the identity thieving.
She had got my virginity,
even hard disks, backup DVDs
she deleted my accounts, my student ID,
goodbye my graduate degrees.

I have met my perfect match
she's my nerdy girl
She knows for loops, try and catch
she writes C and perl.
She can hack into the school computer
erase my physics grade
I love her, I could never find cuter
she promised and yes I got laid
she promised and yes I got laid.

GREAT!! I really enjoyed listening to this. I am a big fan of Punk Rock and this fits perfectly in that space. Excellent lyrics, very clever. Your production, mix, use of Real Tracks are spot on, great tones, and overall sound. SynthV Kevin really works for this song nicely done with phrasing and timing. I really like the stops with the Sitar lines and the drum dropouts for dynamic effects. AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing this one

Janne,

Excellent song. Love the punk-feel. Synthesizer V Kevin was a great choice.

I really like the mix on this as well - you nailed the sound!

That must have taken a lot of time getting the Synth V vocals down - that's a lot of words!

Excellent catchy chorus and a good driving song with a fun narrative.

A really good listen.

Janne, you have got that Synthesizer V Kevin down to a science.

How did you get it to sound so good? Especially with so many words!
Great lyrics and production.
I liked the stops with the Sitar.

This put a smile on my face!

This is terrific, Janne. You should keep a small recorder next to your bed. The lyrics are so freakin' cool. Vocals sound good and I so happy for your happy ending.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Really good fun sounding song but two things struck me as not really fitting:
i) lyrically "she promised that I will get laid.", "She had got my virginity," & "she promised and yes I got laid" these are clunky and post pubescent ...
ii) musically the left side guitar. It's tone is blunt and the chord changes expose what seems like a lot of processing by PG.

Cheers

Janne,
Fun light hearted punk tune. You have a wonderful sense of humor. Musically delicious. I was sure you used other non-PG synths, but seems with exception of Sitar (which was an unusual, but cool choice) all BIAB players. Excellent arrangement & mix. I can only imagine how long it took to train robo boy. Sounds very realistic. Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Hi Janne.
A lot of work went into this one.
Some of the lyrics seem a little old fashioned for modern times but it's all cleverly done.
Great sound.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks Peter for your kind feedback smile Well, I have had 15 years to get those words to work smile I started with Vocaloid in 2008, redid some parts in 2015 and last year I imported the Vocaloid file into Synth V and it was just finetuning after that, well actually I had to rewrite many parts in the verses, but the chorus has remained the same from the beginning. It was a fun process.

Thanks Mario, I appreciate your kind comment and your bright smile laugh As I mentioned earlier, it took me 15 years to make the lyrics work smile Glad that you liked the sitar, it was there from the beginning and for some reason I never questioned using it... maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

Thanks Ray for your kind comment smile Yep, clunky as an American teenage nerd movie smile But of course I would be very interested to hear how a GOM would change the lyrics to make it sound more sophisticated without losing the comical aspect wink

A fun listen, Janne. smile Cool write!

Kevin sounds great and he and Solaria work a charm as the backup singers.

The driving band works well and we enjoyed the sitar.
Wonderful group of session players!

And the mix sets up a great soundstage on our monitors.

Enjoyed it!

J&B

PS. That was a good melody to have in your head when you awoke.

Good raw punk song with some nice surprises.
I love it.

I was expecting Kevin to be too clean for this band, but you did a good job making him sound raw as well.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
