My Walking Shoes

A bluesy number about walking away the blues, featuring Janice Merritt on lead and backing vocals.

My Walking Shoes
I don’t need to lay down on your couch
Don’t need no dojo, kick and shout
Don’t need to buy more stuff, try to fill this hole
Mountains of sugar won’t satisfy my soul

Just need my walking shoes, walk away my blues
Just need my walking shoes to chase my blues away

It’s not hard to feel down in the mouth
Riddled with uncertainty and doubt
Don’t need to be a genius to know the world’s in trouble
In my darkest dreams I see us picking through the rubble

I need my walking shoes, walk away my blues
Just need my walking shoes to chase these blues away

This world is beautiful, so full of wonder
Too many only see the riches they can plunder
I don’t like to think about tomorrow
I fear there is a prospect of more sorrow

I’m waiting for a hint, a clue, a sign the tide is turning
From where I stand right now, everything is burning

I need my walking shoes, walk away my blues
Just need my walking shoes to chase these blues away

Darling let me lay down by your side
I have a little secret to confide
As long as we’re together I’ll still try
In spite of all this madness, it’s alright

Just need my walking shoes, walk away my blues
Just need my walking shoes to chase these blues away

I need my walking shoes, walk away my blues
Just need my walking shoes to chase these blues away

Peter, Leon, Janice & Bud,

Excellent song!

Love the intro with the brushes and gradual build. Nice big guitar solo and outdo - Peter, your guitar tones are tight & raunchy. So good!

Janice sounds otherworldly. Such a strong, clear & nuanced performance. Completely in command.

Love the production. The whole song just jumps out of the speakers with an immense amount of swagger.

AWESOME!

L&P&J&B...

The Bass, Drums and Organ are the perfect combination.
A good write. The world has gone to hellinahandbasket, but Love conquers all.

Stunning vocals and BGVs. Oozes emotion.

Nice solo. Cool tone - 70's-ish. Nice outro!

Excellent mix.

Good album cover!

I so loved this song from
the moment I heard it. That makes your comment very special. And I have to mention the inspiration from
Peter’s guitar.

Great work by all involved, starting with your guitar, followed by Janice vocals and perfectly presented by Bud.
There is nothing not to love.
Maybe a small nit: the horns sound a bit too clean and well produced for a blues. Doesn't has Kontakt any rusty horns to offer?

Peter, Leon, Janice & Bud, you all produce winner after winner after winner!

This is your latest winner.

As always everything is definitely professional.

Great backing band supporting an outstanding singer.

Loved it.

Glory be! When I first heard the bass opening I was thinking of Bud. What a wonderful song. Very interesting bridge, and, man, that solo is superb. Love the creeping blues feel with a sultry swing. Janice, no one does it better, and what terrific harmony ideas and execution. Dang, those horns with that ripping guitar are outstanding. Perfect lyrics, Leon. GREAT SONG, PETER!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Excellent lyrics flow naturally, and Janice's vocal make the words fly through the air so smoothly and with ease.
That bass is really walking the blues away.
I really like the jazzy verses, interesting chord progression and the bass/organ combination brings enjoyable depth.
Many nice surprising changes during the song, the bridge part is little bit pop and then the guitar starts its heavy solo. And the horns bring soul in the end.
Very interesting and professional sounding package.

What struck me 1st was just how RIGHT the placement & level of the vocal are in this dynamic setting.
The segue from vocal to 1st solo also stuck with me.
The more rambunctious solo & horn section was a treat too.
Everything works like it was ought and even better.

Cheers

Peter & Team,

This is VERY good! 3 spins, still sounds fresh smile First impression, it was a seasoned well known cover, the one that I didn't hear before for some reason. Got all the components of a hit song. Excellent set of lyrics and stellar performance by Janice. ACE guitars. Peter, you should be proud of this one. Congrats to everyone involved!
Enjoyed it very much, and thank you for sharing.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
