The Promise of Fall

In my area summer is over in a couple of days so lets have one last summer party before all of the leaves start falling and the shoveling of snow begins!!

BiaB Style = Pop Promise
Tempo = 110 BPM

I deleted the strings, bass, and piano.

Piano = EZKeys2 grooves - preset - basic piano
Guitar - EZKeys2 - Dream Machine - preset - MK VII basic
Utility track - Kontakt - Kurt Hunter - virtuoso strings preset - full string section and String machine 2 - preset galactic strings
Drums - various Steven Slate SSD5 drums
Percussion - various Kontakt and GM instruments

I am playing the fretless bass and via my wind controller the Swam flugelhorn and tenor sax.

As always all comments are welcomed.

Mario,

This sounds great. I love the flugelhorn.

The mix is excellent - so crisp. Just like those Fall mornings that are on the way!

Loved it!

Very beautiful melody!

Kinda Burt Bacharach in a way.

I could see you playing this on the top of a British double decker bus, going through Las Vegas, dressed like Austin Powers, and saying to some beautiful lady:

"Groovy baby! Come a little closer. I promise I won't bite. Unless you want me to!!"

Yeaaaaah Baby!!!!

Hi MarioD,

very soft composition in a cozy atmosphere. The playing of the wind instruments is very successful in the symbiosis that you have created. It's pleasant, I appreciated it.

Hi Mario,

You are improving every time I hear a new song from you.
I hope that feeling doesn't end for a long time, although how long can someone improves?
You can do that a long time, it seems!
You did a wonderful job with this instrumental
In the back a Latin-like mood and in the front a wonderful solo from a horn!
It's that flugelhorn on your wind controller. A good/realistic sound!

Enjoyed it a lot. Listened several times to that nice melody...

Thanx so much Hans. If I am improving it must be at a very slow rate because I don't hear it. I just have fun playing and if others get enjoyment from it well that is icing on the cake for me.

Very nice, Mario.

David called it with his Bacharach mention....

Excellent job with the wind controller.
Those Swam instruments are amazing. And you play them well...

Good mix.

Well, Happy Fall, Mario. Yesterday was our daugher's birthday, and we always have a big end of Summer celebration. Yeah, I get the Bacharach comments. [Hey, I got a good gig while playing his piano in Sceptor Records in 1969.] Where's your Hal David part? Cool melody and quite a lifting song. Love that melody you pplayed on the sax. I don't see a trumpet mentioned, or is that actually the flugelhorn? Either way it is so good. Excellent tone. Really well done!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx so much Floyd. Yes, those Swam instruments are amazing and sounding better as I improve on the wind controller: I am still a beginner on it.

Thanx so much Marty. I wish I had a Hal David part that was great with lyrics. Me? After moon, June, and spoon I'm finished!

That was a Swam flugelhorn. They make great sounding horns and woodwinds as well as other instruments. Thus far I only have their trumpets, which includes the flugelhorn, and the saxes as they are quite expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Kinda hard to follow David's comments. smile

Fall? Bring it on! After a long, long hot and stormy summer we are ready.

You said to fj, "...Yes, those Swam instruments are amazing and sounding better as I improve on the wind controller: I am still a beginner on it."

Hmmm ... we think you have been excellent on it for a long time. There was an layoff due to equipment issues as we recall and later you came back strong as ever.

We too like the flugelhorn (doesn't really roll of the tongue though).

So we much enjoyed the summer send off!

Mario,
Smooth tune. Flugelhorn and sax are the stars of the show. Mix is clear. Listens well except I found that drumming cymbals (?) are a bit repetitive, but I am sure that is they way you wanted smile Thank you for sharing.

It just started to feel like fall here this weekend with temps in the 60s.

The flugelhorn and sax sound so authentic. Especially the flugelhorn. Wow!

Beautiful composition. I especially like the interplay between the horn and sax.

Thanx so much Bud and Janice for those very kind remarks. We had a cool and very wet summer up here and I'm glad that it is over. Because of all of the rain I had to mow the lawn at least once a week. We only had one 90°F day between July and August but three in September, well after the pool was closed!

Thanx Misha. I agree the percussion was a tad repetitious and I should have paid more attention to it. Thanx for pointing that out.

Thanx so much. I really like those Swam instruments and I will be using them more as these old arthritic fingers are interfering with my guitar playing.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
