Morning Folks, Thanks to those who assisted with this mix. I tried all suggestions and kept those that worked. The Mastering Engineer had a suggestion when he heard the song. I tried it & he was/is right so I kept that too. Thanks Alison for for taking part in the songwriting, recording and videography. Thanks Floyd Jane for laser like detail and great ears.

Well Ray, something completely different from your hands, but what a nice song!!! Enjoyed it very much. The vocals are beautiful, Your guitarplay too. Oh, and the lyrics are clever. I think I use Dave's word for the song: Excellent!
Well, Ray, we were about to post late to the party on WIP and saw this so we’ll just respond here. This is great!
Alison’s smooth and rich vocal really serves the fine lyric well.
The organ and piano keep that brooding vibe going with your, as always, excellent bass and the lead guitar is so good! We don’t know if you had to regen it much but it really shines.
Having listened to the song through all the permutations this final mix and mastering was certainly worth your experimentation.
The video also is a treat with seeing you and Alison performing and the lovely scenery and cool clips.

Thanks Hans, Is it significantly different? I don't really know as I just do what comes into my head. I did try to get a male singer to write a set of lyrics and he did but the theme didn't fit the sound in anyway - not even in a "clash of icons" sense. So I scrabbled together a melody, did a quick lyric sketch and Alison agreed to tidy & improve things which is where we ended.

Many thanks J&B, The lead solo took a bunch of regens, some copy, paste & pitch shifting, (particularly to get the flow of the run into the next section), but it was worth it. The video was a quick thing with indoors Alison juxtaposed with a walk around my place. There was a bass playing clip all the way through but it proved redundant after a quick "look at me" appearance so there's was a fair bit left on the editing room floor. As always. The hill is Mount Cooran directly opposite our place. It's a 124M high, (275m above sea level), and part of the Glasshouse Mountain range. It's a little one and has walking tracks but is well know to be the place to go to get covered in ticks.

Allison has such a beautiful voice with such good control and feeling. This is a great mix. I really like the sound and taste of the bass. Man, those guitars really give the perfect support. Such a good song, Ray. You are as good at taking advice as giving it. Thanks for both.
Ray, This turned out really well! Very nice to see you and Alison performing. Alison's vocals are great! Congrats to both of you on this colab and thank you for sharing.

Thanks Marty, Alison is ab fab. I'm lucky to have caught her between her own recording projects, between gigs and between life & stuff. I'm please you like the bass - it's just the Knockhofner and BDI21. I'm asked for advice - I've been a meathead to ignore the ideas, given where they came from. Everything tried and what worked was kept. In the end the M.E. opted for the less toppy vocal...I gave him two mixes only the vocal treatment changed. I trust his advice & judgement too.

[quote=David Snyder]Hey Ray, This sounds great. Is that you on both bass and guitar in the video? Awesome production. [/quote Ta David, yes me n my faded red shirt playing both - similar looking instruments too. I decided I only needed a brief appearance as bassist as there was enough going on in the vid.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
