I Knew What It's Like on Soundcloud I Knew What It's Like on YouTube Seems as I age I care so little for so much and so much for so little, This song is about all the things I didn't do, all the accomplishments I didn't achieve. Yet all the friends I've had and all the love I've known overshadows any regret. Key=Am , Tempo 115, Length (m:s)=3:20 4 bar intro, 88 bar chorus, from bar 5 to bar 92. Repeat x1 chorus Style is _HEIFER.STY (Shaky Ev-8 Harmonica Blues) RealTracks in style: ~674:Organ, B3, Background Blues Roadhouse Ev 120 RealTracks in style: 580:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Blues Roadhouse Ev 120 RealTracks in style: ~496:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm StoneZ Honky 1 Ev 120 RealDrums in Song: AmericanaSlow8thsFred RealTracks in song: 1278:Synth Pad, PopUplift Ev 120 RealDrums in Song: AfucheShakerEv8[single] RealDrums in style:CowbellEv[single]^1-a,b:Quarters I took out the harmonica and put in a synth pad, and the cowbell is the only remaining drum in the style. Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played his signature amazing tasty guitar. I played bass. I Knew What It's Like (To Be In Love)When my life is over I hope you think of me, and all the wrongs I've done forgive. I never had a mansion. I never did enough. But I knew what it's like to be in love. Could've done much better with the gifts bestowed on me. Could've helped the world improve. I never got promoted or earned a platinum glove, but I knew what it's like to be in love. Meaning in my life was not discerned with greed. Love is all with you I need. Others seem to gather all the riches and the fame, but I just chased my dream in you. I didn't build a kingdom; I never rose above, but I knew what it's like to be in love. Ha Marty and Dave!
This afternoon I was sitting behind my pc listening to a lot of songs on the forum. The quality is very good I must say. I had a pleasant afternoon. Just when I thought I heard it all, two songs came in, almost at the same time. Floyd and you! Floyd made a very nice dark song and you made a beautiful joyful song.
I must say, I enjoyed your lovely song very much. The singing is really good, the lyrics are beautiful, like the leadguitar and your bass. Having said that, I listened again and focussed on the lyrics. You really have the skills to say lovely and also justified things in few words. I noticed that before as well, of course, but it still fascinates me how you do that!
Oh, also a few words for Dave; you did such a great job on the lead guitar. Always a pleasure to listen to your playing! But that isn't sounding new, is it?
So a wonderful song, gentlemen!
Hans

A very Carlos Santana-like song - complete with the guitar from Dave Bell himself . He nails his part ... you, Marty, nail yours. You are a storyteller, and (obviously) a brilliant one. And the lyrics make for a beautiful, beautiful story to tell. All these elements come together wonderfully - well done.

Cool, groovy, a great song all around, lyrics, music, production, everything. Can say no more! Brilliant.

Great job. Tasty blues licks and a great topic as well.
You can't dwell on what should have been or what you could have done. It'll drive you crazy. All you can do is carry on, try harder the next time, and write a song about it.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Dave nailed the Carlos vibe for sure. Marty nailed the vocal. BiaB nailed the backing tracks. The lyrics hit home, I am still in love with my wife. Everything is professional for sure!

"as I age I care so little for so much and so much for so little" ^^^^^ Song. Idea. Right. There. Thank you, Floyd! Ha! I noticed that I left the original bass guy on the post cuz I just do what is suggested and copy the stuff from song Memo. Thanks for pointing that out (edited). Although each and every bassist in the BiaB arsenal is a hundred times better than I am, I still like to add my own lines. HEY!! Let's write that one, or rather I'd like to hear what you come up with from that song idea, and maybe I can play bass. Ha Marty and Dave!

Hans HAHA. Thanks, Hans. Well, that was one way to get me mentioned in the same sentence as Floyd. My skill is learning to stay out of the way and let creativity flow where it goes. Yep, Dave always adds the perfect part, and yet every time I'm pleasently surprised at how well he does it. Great Marty!
You are on a roll! Thanks, David. Yep, right passed the rock and into the roll. Right now I have 18 songs in various stages from completed to needs to be recorded. Your song a day in Februrary last year was quite inspirational.

Marty and Dave, This is wonderful music. You've both definitely got the knack for music making. I loved the production and your respective performances. Mario used the work "professional" and I fully agree. Thanks for a great musical journey. --Noel

Marty, well cool. Dave's additions really are fabulous but the song is a cracker anyway. If not RealDrums what did you use? Contemplating mortality, fragility and accountability is a hard thing but also normal at different stages of life. Doing it so well in song is a fabulous thing. Excellent narrative, lovely melody and fab band...oh & the bass is really good.

Marty...at this point I never know quite what to say about your songs...there is a consistency in your writing that is so impressive to me...you write songs (and this is no exception) that are lyrically profound, touching, and/or funny that are filled with and capture the "common man's" perspective of life...you are a troubadour for the blue collar guys...everything is here again...your rock solid vocal and flawless bass playing, Dave's perfect tone and exceptional taste on the solos and fills....so since I can't think of anything to say...never mind.

Dave has a little of every good guitarist in him, and I love it when he brings out the Carlos. Dave nailed the Carlos vibe for sure. Marty nailed the vocal. BiaB nailed the backing tracks. Thanks, Ray. Sorry for the confusion. I mentioned that the cowbell was the only drum used from the STYLE, but I used the AmericanaSlow8thsFred and the PopUplift Ev 120 in the song instead. They're listed, but it is confusing. In the style, and in the song listings. I love the way you think, Ray. That contemplating morality thought is so well said.

Marty,
Much more dynamic than I expected the song to be.
A great write and the vocal phrasing together with the guitar fills are excellent.

Surprisingly melancholic song in minor key when the key message is so sweet about the meaning of love. Leaving me sad, but if that is what you wanted then you have done very good job and I like it Great song in every way, the bass and your voice have that enjoyable sad tone. And Dave can always pull big bluesy tears out of his guitar. Mix is clear. You certainly know what it's like to write an excellent song Janne

Marty,
As you say, as people get older, they tend to want to summarize their lives. The message of your lyrics are so clear and they touch my heart. Dave's guitar obbligato is cool. It supports your vocals really well. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
