That actually sounds quite plausible, seeing how things in this category seem to always strive for more compact... smirk

I have a host of apps on my ipad and have installed every IOS update over the past four years and have never had an app failure. My apps are all from the app store and are auto upgraded PRN.

What is it still good for?

Well I just came in from sitting on the porch while via the pad catching up on forum posts, posting to some FB groups, editing some photos and other odds and ends. Much more comfortable than a laptop for me. FWIW.

It works a bit like a very basicl BIAB, in that you type chords into a chord-sheet, together with a key and a tempo, select a style and it plays an accompaniment. It does a surprisingly good job, IHMO, for an app on a tablet. Using it and knowing friends also used BIAB, was why I tried BIAB, which definitely does do a better job and allows melody (iRealPro has no melody capability). There are times with BIAB, that I'm temped to go back to iRealPro, just for the ease of use. I rarely have to fight it to get something useful, it just works. I've even built lead-sheets like this during a jam session ... someone reads out the chords and I enter them, then find a style later to practice.

Ireal pro is an important tool in 2 or 3 jazz jams I attend. If someone calls a chart and someone doesn’t know it, we all refer to ireal. If we get into an argument about the changes ireal is the final arbiter.

At home I often use it for shedding.
On my iPad of course

How old is your iPad? Mine is 8 years old and will no longer update. Not apps, OS. It tells me right on the screen that if I want a newer OS that I have to spend another thousand bucks and buy a new one. Your apps may all still be updating but how long has it been that you tried to get a newer app that won't run on your hardware? I have run into several that said I need a newer OS to run it, and since my 2015 Mini 2 will no longer update, I can't run those apps.

FWIW I tend to stay somewhat current … at least for a 78 year old smile

Ipad: 2013 3rd Gen iPad > 2019 7th Gen (discontinued 2020) running IOS 17.03 (latest) —- never found an incompatible app.

Mac: 2011 Mac > 2017 Mac > 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro

iPhone: every other year since first release … mainly to stay current with camera advances as my Nikon and bag of lenses has been relegated to the closet.

Bud, I am interested in your 2013 Gen 3. It is still accepting OS updates? I have a 2015 Mini 2 and it is frozen at 12.xx.

Oops. I forgot to mention that I gave it away when I got the 2019 gen. All was working then but I’m sure that would not be the case now.

Yeah I couldn't imagine an iPad older than mine, which won't take OS updates anymore, would be able to. I have 2 droids now and I rarely use them. And of course that iPad mini, which I use even less.

Not for us. We have had nature and architectural photos and five music videos shot with my iPhone 14 Pro that were all very well received. The combination of the new optical zoom and the very high resolution allows some IMHO amazing results. FWIW, etc.,

Attached is a photo I shot from about four feet away.

For music iPads are great. I have an Android tablet and I got an 2018 iPad Pro 11" with a very nice folding case as payment from a tax client two years ago. I see why Apple is better than Android for music stuff. First thing, I paid the $15 for IReal and it's much better than than Android version, creating your own charts is pretty clunky on Android but much better on IOS. iPads are not going away any time soon because they have tons of music software that young people just love. Hip hop/EDM Beatmakers and weird screeching synths seem pretty good but nothing us old folks care about. You can't filter a consumer product like this through 70 year old eyes, ha. I have all my charts on it for gigs plus I put some sound modules on it for fun but found the sound quality decent but not comparable to my keyboards but people gig with iPad sound modules all the time with a lightweight MIDI controller. As far as non music is concerned, it's pretty much the same as a laptop or other tablet although many love the camera quality and the ability to get one with the cellular function which I don't need.

If you're put off by the price there are several websites that sell only used Apple stuff. A standard refurb 2018 Ipad Pro 11" 64GB is going for $359 on Amazon with no case. I could sell mine and get a used 4th gen 12.9" in the $750-800 range. $300-400ish to upgrade isn't bad. Ah, the GAS is creeping in again...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
