This is a Blues Rock - sung by a guy who has lost all his money at the BlackJack table.

Gambling Blues

I wrote the chords, melody and lyrics and I used these styles from BIAB:-

RealTracks in style: 1417:Bass, Electric, RootsRock
RealTracks in style: 2634:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountryBluesRock
RealTracks in style: 3443:Guitar, Electric, Soloist BritPsycFunky
RealDrums in style:PopPromise

Vocalist is the SynthV singer called Nine Zero and I produced the track in Cubase.

Gambling Blues

Sitting here alone, without a penny to my name
I'm sitting here alone, without a penny to my name,
The cards tonight didn't treat me right,
It's such a crying shame

I thought I had a winning hand, but the dealer had the same,
I thought I had a hand, but the dealer had the same,
The cards tonight won’t treat me right,
It's such a crying shame.

Gambling blues torment, and they always take their toll
Those gambling blues torment, and they always take their toll
The cards tonight, didn't treat me right, I'm really in a hole
The cards tonight, didn't treat me right, I'm really in a hole

The cards tonight, didn't treat me right, I'm really in a hole

Kelvin,

I like this an awful lot. Good groove and a singular focus in the lyrics that work well. The vocal is excellent, but from a production perspective, It sounds a tad muffled or too fuzzed for me. It’s a subjective and artistic preference type comment, but I’d like it to be a bit more and crisp. But see what others think, and in the end, go with your gut. Regardless, a very cool blues tune.

All my best,

Deej

Kelvin, listened all the way through then skipped around a bit to relisten to a few parts. Nice minor blues! Your production sounds right for my listening environment, and you've made nice choices throughout. Nine Zero sounds appropriately cool, but I would like to hear a LITTLE more variety in his phrasing, especially as the song wraps up. I started off saying "I can't believe that's a vocaloid" then by the end I was saying "yep, that's a vocaloid". But I don't mean to detract from my overall thought that this is a very cool song, and I enjoyed my listen!

Deej - thank you very much for your observations - I guess if the lyrics, chords and melody are ok, then I could try a different style as well, with a cleaner rhythm guitar maybe, and maybe a different SynthV vocalist….but I think it will still need to be “up-tempo” - this is 115 bpm - I appreciate your comments.

DC Ron - you make a very good point about the phrasing - I am still getting to grips with the SynthV software, but at the very least, I think I will try to vary those last 3 lines as he’s singing the same thing over and over - I appreciate your comments.

Nice - especially considering how inflexible NineZero is.

As you said, a bit more work with the vocal and you'll have it nailed.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Kelvin.

You've done a great job with the classic blues genre. I love how you've worked NineZero into mix. As someone who is just in the early stages of taming the Synth V vocaloids, I can hear the you've put a lot of time and thought into getting the flow of the lyrics right. You've done a great job. From a production perspective, I found myself wondering what NineZero would sound like if his vocals were brought further forward in the mix so that his singing is more of an 'upfront' style rather than an 'on the other side of the room' style.

Thanks for sharing your music. I bought NineZero a couple of weeks ago but I haven't yet used it. You've inspired me!

All the best,
--Noel

Thanks very much Noel - the first version was with "Kevin" and I made the mistake of making the lyrics sound too "perfect" , so I re-did the phonemes so that it sounded more "slang" ("sidding" instead of "sitting" and "ma" instead of "my") - things which are probably second nature to more experienced SynthV users... after I had the phonemes more appropriate I then thought I'd try NineZero.... I'll have to try mixing a bit differently - thanks for the suggestions.

Very catchy groove. That synth voice is strong and determined. Well done all around, Kelvin. A fun song to jam to.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
