Here is a lovely folk song Robert wrote.

Bluebell - Video - Spiritlevel

Bluebell Hill - Soundcloud

Lyrics:

Bluebell Hill

it snowed and snowed and snowed
she melted frost flowers
on the tip of her nose
sang to the pale shy sun
turn sleighbells to bluebells
make sliding streams run

ooh Katie`s climbing
her secret rhyming
on the wind to spill
angels bend to bless
a skylark brooch
on a wildflower dress
ooh Katie`s climbing
Bluebell Hill

Forever Young the bus comes along
laughing round corners
we sing Katie`s song
boys and girls come out to play
we`re old as the moon
as bright as day

ooh Katie`s climbing
her secret rhyming
on the wind to spill
angels bend to bless
a skylark brooch
on a wildflower dress
ooh Katie`s climbing
Bluebell Hill

ooh Katie`s climbing
ooh Katie`s rhyming
ooh Katie`s shining
on Bluebell Hill

Gee, Scott. This is ethereal. Just takes me away to...somewhere I've never been but will want to go back to. Beautiful composition. Vaguely reminiscent of early Neil Young but not any particular song. Certainly very original to my ears and not derivative in the slightest. Your production and playing sit right where they should in letting the song shine. The video was cool. I'm still wrapping my mind around the role of AI...

Scott / Robert,

This is a superb production... From the song to the video. A beautiful package.

Love Robert's vocal on this very pretty poetic folk song. The guitar compliments everything perfectly. Nice job Scott.

I enjoyed everything about this.

I'm listening to the youtube version - seems a tiny bit better sonically.
I did watch for a minute though...I find the morphing a little unsettling so opted to just listen.
The kick seems to be at about 11 on the clock for some beats and closer to noon on others which is a little odd in headphones.
2nd listen - the strings in the intro were sweet I kept an ear out but they don't come back again.
Sonically lush & the solo piano chord to end was cool though oddly placed in the stereo image.
Nice restrained solo on your part.

Cheers

Hi Robert and Scott,

I enjoyed this song a lot!
Especially the chorusses jump out of this song in a very attractive way.
But I think you knew this effect would happen...

And then the lead guitar came in. Scott, a wonderful performance!

Thanks Ron for checking out the song. I had a lot of fun working on this song with Robert. Kind of took us in different direction for a bit. Really glad you liked the song...

Thanks Bob. I must admit that adding adding the videos to our songs has really created a spark in our song writing. It is so amazing how much they change from when we start them to the finished product. Really glad you liked the song.

Scott & Robert,

A true painting in words. Those lush BGVs are simply fabulous! Cinematic. Romantic. Mesmerizing, etc. A beautiful song and so well put-together. A truly lovely listen.

I think Alan has the perfect description: "painting with words".
For my taste, the vocals could be a little louder in places, but other than that, I like what you did.
Pretty cool song, pretty cool video!

Scott and Robert,

It is a lovely tune! I hadn't heard Robert's voice in a while, and he really delivered a fine performance here! Wonderful lyrics and a fine guitar perfomance Scott!

Thanks, TB

Thanks Mario. Really glad you liked the song. Most of my guitar solos are inspired by the melody in Roberts vocals.

Thanks Ray for checking out the song. Interesting your take on the kick. I use a dynamic eq that is side chained to the kick and bass. I played around with the frequencies i.e 110 - 120 which ducks the bass when the kick comes in. The drum track is just a stock RT so interesting that the bass was causing it to sound like it was panning a bit in certain sections of the song....

Nice to hear a folky Spirit Level tune where Robert's picturesque poetry really shines on Bluebell Hill. Robert's voice is always really original and those excellent backing vocals are the highlight of the song. The mood is so mesmerizing that it is easy not to pay attention to the instrumentation which is very pleasant, everything works, the drums are a good fit and Scott's guitar plays important role in this upbeat scenery.

The below lines fit well with Janice’s philosophy to always keep your inner child alive:

“we`re old as the moon
as bright as day”

That and the scenes of the Mama, daughter and granddaughter laughing reminded Janice of the joy we shared with our mothers.

The whole package including all the performances is excellent, Scott, and your mix sounds great on the monitors.

Enjoyed the sights and sounds too!
