I'm always a little reluctant to write a Christmas song. Maybe because there is so much to live up to but I bullied myself into it this year and I feel my work is done (for a year anyway). smile.

The band:
Bass 701
Piano 2461
Guitars 2916, 3202, 3203, 2051
Drums Nashville pop ballad and Country pop ballad

Now on Christmas Day © 2023 V. Arnold
V1
Early in the morning.
Everyone's in bed.
All except that old guy
dressed in red.
Some think his whiskers
are made of cotton wool
but wrapped around those red cheeks,
they look kinda cool.
V2
Bells will ring out,
heralding the show,
Maybe tomorrow
we'll build a man of snow.
The season to be jolly,
when the devout prey
and even those who don't,
show love this day.
Pre ch.
Crisp and white, silent night.
All the stars glowing bright.
Ch.
So ring the chimes. Sing those rhymes
and all the words you need to say.
Take the sweetness.
Give forgiveness,
all on Christmas day
Pre ch.2
Hear the children counting sheep,
trying to lose their thoughts in sleep.
Ch.

Haha. With ya, Vic. Every year I think of it, too, but it seems the thought comes too close to Christmas. This is so good. It has aol the best elements of a Christmas song. A catchy chorus, a happy melody and relatable lyrics. I like how the song builds. It's also the kind of Christmas song that will last as long as the holiday is celebrated. Well done!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

It’s a good thing thing you talked yourself into writing this. It’s a good one. The guitars sound great and your vocals are perfect for the sentiment of celebration. I really enjoyed it, Tom

Vic,
Writing a proper original sounding Christmas song is a hard thing to do without sounding like something else! You got the prize here, its a wonderful touching song that's all your own! Nice work!
Thanks, TB

Vic...yes writing an original Christmas song is a real challenge but you did a stellar job....the music is very appropriate and the lyric captures the thoughts that send our minds to the wonder of the season...well sung and well produced!

Vic,

Very nice.
Most attempts at Christmas songs sound and feel like they are doing-the-same-old-Christmas-thing.
Not this. Most original. And worthy of being on any new Christmas releases.

Well done.

Nicely done, love everything about it! I'd say you nailed the intent pretty cleanly. The early instrumental break and placement of the harmonies in the arrangement were nice details. Time for an album!

Hi Vic,

Well, I'm delighted you decided to take on this project.

It's a really great song. As Floyd mentioned, very original, but perfect for the season. Nice job! Enjoyed it a bunch.

Yes. Where would we be without a cliche or two.
Next year will be even more of a challenge.

Thanks DC.
An album would be more than possible but I'm not very good at marketing.
Last album I produced cost more than I got back finacially. On balance though I enjoyed the experience.

I'm with the others - well done.

And bonus props for managing not to be derivative - not an easy task! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Vic,

You wrote that you 'bullied' yourself into writing a Christmas song. Well, it turned out fantastic!
A beautiful guitarplay, melody and lovely lyrics. Exactly what we desire on that special day, or maybe week.

I would have said I pressed myself in doing something, but you bullied yourself.
Well maybe you can try doing this at Easter, the 3 Kings, independence day, election days, birthdays and -maybe- also for the weekends.
This should work well, given your qualities! And we will enjoy it with red ears, I bet!

Hans
