Hello forum friends. Thanks so much for all of the kind words about Here Comes Autumn. My life is pretty hectic now but I read all the posts and was really moved by your words. I have a lot of songs on various sites but only here do I get to hear from people who have an understanding and appreciation for songwriting and production. At some point in the past year, I discovered the "Backpacker" RTs and fell in love with them! I have written a number of songs with them. They capture that retro James Taylor/Carole King vibe that I fell in love with in the early 70s. This song used those RTs, the Vancouver piano RT (played through a Komplete piano sound), and the free Fluffy flute plugin. Would love to hear what you think . Take care all. Greg
I See You
Sometimes life’s like a rainy night It’s dark and it’s cold And it feels like the light is never gonna ccme Never gonna see the sun
I can’t find nothin gonna cure these blues Turn on the TV; it’s more bad news It just keeps coming round Feeling like I’m gonna drown
Then I see you And the world starts to change When I’m with you It’s hard to explain It’s like a gentle wind Makes me whole again It’s pure poetry What you do to me If this is love Hope it never ends In this world so unsure My only cure Is you
I used to be such a laidback guy Nothing could shake me It seemed like I was In my own little dream (Keep on dreaming.......don't wanna wake up) But nowadays the world…it just drags me down That carefree kid…guess he just left town And left me standing here Where nothing’s right and nothing’s clear
Then I see you…
I never dreamed That I would find A place where I Could leaver the world behind Put a lock on the door Whatever this is I want more
What do I think about this? Gorgeous in every aspect!!!
First, your vocal: As always (and I do mean always), your vocal is just so good - passionate, smooth, engaging - and all those other superlatives that I've already used multiple times. Also, it sounds to me that you have put just a tiny amount more higher EQ in your vocal here. Just enough to notice if paying attention.
The BGVs are out of this world. You do them better than anyone in this forum.
The instrumental backing: A perfect selection of tracks to support the warm passion of the vocal and lyric. The flute is awesome! The only thing that might be worth a 2nd look is the rhythm guitar on the right. It might be worth considering cutting back just a wee bit where the mid EQ meets the higher EQ. But it's so insignificant in the big picture it may not matter whatsoever.
I've not had a chance to look at the backpacker group of RTs. But after listening to this song, it's on my agenda for later tonight.
The lyric: Could it be any better? I doubt it. That chorus brings everything together so perfectly. And everything else (the verses) conveys the mood and "color" of the soundscape.
Loved it! You are an amazing talent.
Take care, my friend. Wishing you and yours the very best of everything.
Alan mentioned you've got the best BGVs on the forum, but I think you've got the smoothest vocals, period.
Lovely arrangement, great write, lovely vocals.
The song is easy listening bliss.
Fluffy's "Simple Flute' works nicely here, but I've got strong feelings about flutes, and I wish it could be a bit more expressive even on the simple lines. A touch of vibrato or something...
Anyway, that's literally the only nit (and it's a small one), because the this song is completely wonderful.
Greg, well, you and those RTs really nailed the JT/CK sound for sure! Just a lovely tune, with great BGVs and solid backing tracks. Great write and production!

This has a real classic pop sound to it, as a lot of your songs do. Silky, and gorgeous and all that.
As I have said before, compositionally, you always seem to remind me of Sting, and there is some of that here, for sure, but it also has a hint of Bee Gees in the production and mix and I say that as a very high compliment.
Merry Christmas.

Oh, excellent find of those RTs and what a splendid use of them for this beauty. Love the melody and, of course, your delivery, Greg. Harmonies are perfectly placed and performed. Excellent lyrics and written for the singer to easily feel the phrasing. Top-notch in every way. [Diggin' that Christams album, too.]
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
This is a beautiful song, both lyrics and music. As a newbie BIAB-ite I'm very intrigued by the places where there seems to be a fermata. I tried to get that effect on one of my songs and could not do it. Did BIAB give you a way to accomplish this or did you do it in the mixing stage? (If all you more experienced folks are rolling your eyes, please forgive a newbie question).
Amazing. Nobody would ever suspect that it wasn't a production with top session musicians. Really, really well done. And your vocals are as good as it gets. All professional!
What a lovely song! I can underline the words in your lyrics: "It’s pure poetry what you do to me" Your vocals fit in this song like gloves (is this the way you say this too?). Enjoyed it very much. In fact I'm listening to it again.
Greg...everything about this is exquisite...first off your vocals are so good...off the charts...I love the gentle nature of the composition (and yes it's so Jame Taylor-ish)...really nice track...the BGV's are perfect...man this is so good!
