This also applies to other genres featuring soloing musicians (Rock, Metal, etc,), but, for the sake of discussion, assume an up-tempo jazz combo tune. A common structural layout will be as follows:
1) Intro
2) Head - All instruments are playing through 1st chorus
3) Stop Time Break for Soloist 1 - this is a beat 1 shot followed by either a 2 or 4 bar solo by the soloing instrument that occurs at the last 2 or 4 bars of the tune's changes that serves as a mini intro into that instrument's full solo turn on the chorus. While the drummer may kick a few beats before this, the comping instruments begin playing again on beat one of the next chorus.
4) Soloist 1 solos - typically one full turn through the chorus
5) Stop Time Break for Soloist 2 - same as above only Soloist 2 is playing this
6) Soloist 2 solos - as above
.
.
.
and so on to the Last Soloist. Except...
7) ***No Stop Time Break Following Last Soloist*** - last soloist ***plays through*** last 2 or 4 bars until beat 1 of Replay of Head
8) Replay of Head - all instruments playing last chorus
10) Outro/Ending

****** Would like a Song Setting that understands that the bar shot and instrument mutes for the repeating 2 or 4 bar Stop Time Break are to be played for choruses 1 through (X-2) only; the last two choruses (Last Soloist and Replay of Head) should *not* contain the Stop Time Break. ******

Here is a 4-bar stop time break serving as intro into a solo over a chorus: Stop Time Example (Unfortunately, successive soloist do not make use of a Stop Time Break for their solo.)

Thanks for considering. Feel free to reach out.
