Sitting here as the clock ticks down the remaining minutes in 2023 thinking about the year that's about to end.

Mesha is on the floor, mostly unaffected by the occasional redneck homemade fireworks. She became a family member this year and also passed her HRD certification to become a cadaver dog.

Lilly is laying on the floor under the influence of trazodone because she doesn't like the fireworks.

Musically, this was a good year. I had a number of songs sent by taxi to film and TV producers and production libraries. Another one was sent to a Nashville publisher for consideration by a Nashville artist. And two of my songs were signed into a reputable, A-List sync music production library with indication coming a few days ago that the songs are on a short list for a film. I met and wrote with several new collaborators. I was also signed by Songlorious as a writer and completed 3 song project assignments for them. It's been quite a busy year musically.

In the New Year, I'm planning on focusing more on writing and placing more music in sync production libraries and working with my dogs on their training. The goal is to get signed into a few more A-list libraries and get some cuts.

Feel free to recap your year and express your thoughts, hopes, and goals for the new year.

Happy New Year. Wishing you all the best.

Chase your dreams because they won't chase you.

2023 was the full return of gigging since COVID. 2022 was a partial return. So far, 24 is looking as good.

2023 was the first vacation we took since COVID, we went to Hawaii (our 50th of all 50 US states). Pele welcomed us. Kilauea was erupting, and looking down into the caldera, we got to see hot lave spurt up as tall as a 5-story building.

2023 was happy and healthy, and we are looking for more of the same next year.

Those are personal wishes, I have a lot of wishes for the planet, but I don't think they will happen — history repeats itself.

For 2024, my goal is to finally really learn the deep hidden intricacies of the guitar, bass and banjo fretboard in order to becoming better at improvising on the spot just about any song I can think of.

That's same goal I had on January 1st 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, .... 1999, 1998, 1997.... 1980...1970...

But this time I really AM going to reach it!

cool

I just want to last long enough to see 2025 a year from now.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Musically, and otherwise, 2023 was a great year for me. I saw growth in the usage of BiaB, increased my knowledge of music theory, wrote and recorded several songs a few of which were collaborative efforts with others and all of which were fun. I also continued my growth on my bass guitar and keyboard and am having a blast with my latest "toy", a drum pad. I sometimes can't believe what I've accomplished musically as someone who picked up music late in life and is "self-taught". BiaB was/is a big part of that. My goal is to continue all of this into 2024 and beyond.

I'm glad I made the choices I did as a teen and young adult and put in the hard work that led me to an unbelievably rewarding career in engineering which has now allowed me to pursue another passion . . . music.

Life is good. Life is great!

Happy New Year to all, and as has been so eloquently stated above . . . chase your dreams because they certainly won't chase you.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thumper, does your drum pad have sounds in it or is it a trigger pad to play MIDI drum sounds? I had an Alesis "Trigger Finger" pad for a while that I used to play MIDI drums. It went away a while back in a "purge mode" set of transactions, and I was never really very good using it. It was hard to control the sensitivity and the parts I played came out very uneven as I sometimes his the snare pad harder than other times. But they are a good tool to work on your "inner clock" and get the feel of playing in time.

2023 was good to me and I hope to keep the momentum in 2024 but plan to take five weeks off to walk the French Camino.

Launch of chat gpt was one of those things that changed my life. I was all over it like a rash. Launched LyricLab (ai assisted gpt based chord and lyric generator) and surpassed 100k subscribers, 180 million views my YouTube channel.

Wow.... I'm happy to say I knew you before you became famous. 180 MILLION views on Youtube.... I get excited when I hit the 100 views mark. Very nice and hopes for continued success.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
