I have BIAB 2024 build 1108. I cannot play back a song using any Real Tracks without the arrangement gradually generating noise similar to bad radio reception, like a shaky, low powered AM station conflicting with another. My PC is a Windows machine, 64 bit, 3192 MHz. While this degradation occurs with ANY Real Tracks, an example would be my arrangement of Always, by Irving Berlin. It uses _JBSLBPD.sty (Jazz Ballad w/ Pollwinners): Bass, Piano and drums. The track is set to 85 bpm, which matches the style, so there should be no timing issue between the file and the style. The degradation begins at about bar 4, and seems to get worse as the track goes on. MIDI tracks work fine.

For reference, my signal chain runs: BIAB -> USB -> Audient audio interface -> mixing console -> speakers.

Not being able to use Real Tracks is a significant issue for me, and I would like to know if anyone else has seen this problem? I have had it since BIAB 2023 as well, and was hoping that updating to 2024 would bring relief. Image attached, hopefully.

If you render it to wav or mp3 do you get the noise ?
Have you tried using another audio driver ?
Can you look at the Tracks view and see any noise in the waveforms ?

I've rendered it (and others) both to MIDI and to wav. Both work fine, including the waveform. Changing audio drivers just locked up the program.

In all honesty, I'm pretty taken with the ability to just drag and drop my tracks into Reaper, which is my DAW of choice for both music and voiceover production. Previously, I had been exporting the file to MIDI, separating tracks, then importing them all to Reaper, then loading instrument software so Reaper could play the tracks...

More work than I wanted. Now all that is short-circuited, and since the wav forms look great, despite how they play in BIAB, a good bit of my anxiety is relieved. I'd still like to know if I can fix the BIAB playback, though...

Check you Audio Driver. I suspect it is current set to WAS. Change it to MME. If that don't work. Use the Return to Factory Settings.

Also check the sample rate for the Windows Audio and Audient interface. Band-in-a-Box uses audio with a sample rate of 44.1 Khz. I suspect either Windows audio or the Audient audio driver is set for 48Khz.

Well that's an easy fix with Open SGU in Reaper problem solved, also see Advanced Mode of Working with Biab
Dragging and dropping went out with the ark, the VST6 will now also transfer instantly without waiting ages to render to wav files.

It was set for ASIO. I changed it to MME, which seems to have cleared up the issue. I'll keep monitoring and testing to see if it's the ultimate answer. Thanks for the tip!

New day, new test. It turns out that the issue was with the audio driver set to ASIO. Changed to MME and all seems fine (I don't know why the program locked up yesterday; probably forced a change to the driver at an inopportune time...)

Those are my standard settings. Turned out that the audio driver (ASIO) wasn't playing well. MME seems to be working.

psu.

i use audient n dont have to use mme.
read all of my first post tips thread in tips n tricks forum.
it might help....particularly note my tips on optimising a pc for music production.
also note point 10 if you get more problems re posting your settings.

audient for me has been superb...not one prob seriously.
lots of time it depends of the interraction tween win/the sound device and bb settings.
mine are 44.1/16 for all. i get 4ms latency for audient.

PSUnderwood,
I get this quite often using my soundcard (in Asio mode). Sometimes if another software "steals" driver, BIAB doesn't snap back to it. The workaround I found that works in my case: when this happens (when I do want ASIO) is go under audio settings, selecting MME and then switching back to ASIO, without exiting the menu. Then Asio works again.

Rusty.

fyi the audient interface has multi client drivers.
ive never needed to do that.
ie one can run multiple apps with audient.
i suspect psu has a setting that needs changeing either in win or bb or the audient control panel.
Or maybe he is running on the net and a net app is takeing control.
my pc never sees the net..

respect

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
