I find this list eye-opening and quite interesting.
But I would have thought that BiaB would be categorized in the Music Composing Software bucket, but it isn't.

Beyond the DAWs listed, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has found any of these programs useful in their work.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

I suspect a page like "list of music software" will be permanently out of date as there's so much out there. For example, in the very first category I have two CD-rippers that are not listed. The "Audio Plug-ins" category seems very sparse indeed. I have hundreds of them and I'm certain many others have hundreds I don't.

Wikipedia is user-administered and you can set up your own account, log-in and make the changes you think are appropriate. The Wiki Foundation and volunteers examine such changes and try to correct, clarify, expand. whatever as appropriate. You could add BIAB in appropriate categories yourself, if you wish.

Yep, you're absolutely right. Software development is accelerating faster than ever and now AI can write code.

Far from me to edit where BiaB should be placed, I'll leave that to PGMusic who might see some marketing value in it's location.
What was eye-opening for me is the overlap between music software and engineering software. For example, over my career, I used SPICE/PSPICE to model and analyze various circuit representations, yet it's on a music software list.

PGM is listed under the VST category.
Other that Studio One Pro (SOP) I use Audacity on every song. I mix down in SOP then go straight to Audacity for normalizing and possibly eliminating drum intros and endings.
I have use Soundfont software in the past and still do on rare occasions.

I hadn't noticed that (there are actually three different Spice simulators listed). If they make the list as wide as that, probably any software could be included ... Excel under music cataloguing perhaps....

According to my ex-employer one just puts one's electronics wants into Spice and an almost complete design comes out of the other end. All I had to do then was the layout. Actually I think he was lying then to cover his back from having previously lied to someone else, trying to discredit me.

We also had OrCad, Saber and a half dozen other simulation environments in our toolboxes.
Further back in time we had a rigid-body dynamics simulation (running on a Mainframe) of the entire Space Shuttle including the robot arm built by the Canadiens.

You mention Excel. I wonder how Notes Norton made out in using Excel for his playlists on gigs.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
