Hi all

I heard this song tonight for the first time and love the rhythm. Does anyone know if there is a similar drum/bass rhythm in BIAB to match this song as I don’t know where to begin searching for this type of style?

Long Cool Woman in a black dress 139bpm

I used F7 to open the MultiPicker and Selected the Styles tab. When I typed in the name for Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) by the Hollies the StylePicker reported the song is Medium Rock, 4/4, Even 8 and135 BPM. It found 427 styles that match the criteria.

I would start my search with some of the British Rock styles.

That’s great thank you. I didn’t know you could search by song, that’s amazing. I’ll check them out later. Hopefully there’s a similar drum and bass style cause I think that song is cool.

It does only match songs that fit the parameters, not necessarily the style, but it does reduce the choices quite a bit.

I searched the same as Jim and got similar results and Gordon is correct regarding the Styles aren't designed or intended to mimic the actual song. To overcome that obstacle I go online and download a free MIDI file of the song, open a new song using the midi to populate chords and have the groove and some usable midi tracks, like accurate renditions of drums and bass and include to get a really fun BIAB Chord Chart to play with. I found a playable RealTrack to use the MIDI lead guitar and that really helped the overall feel of the song.

If anyone is trying to do a cover song as close as possible to the original then Charlie's method is the only way to go, been there - done that.

If you are looking for an exact version of a song, say for you to sing with, then a purchased MIDI song is your best option. Many purchased MIDI songs are transcribed perfectly while many free one are not.
YMMV

Thank you all. I'm not looking to copy that song entirely but to create my own song from a similar groove - yet to compose the song. Here's a clip of what I've come up with in BIAB. It's short and raw.

Sample style from BIAB

Yep... using the style search filter that bases it's choices off the title of a song is a good way to get in the musical ballpark.

That will go a long way towards getting you pretty close to the style you need. Once you get there, you can either make your own version of the song "making it yours" so to speak or you can take the tracks to a DAW and play the parts containing the signature licks and such to get it even closer.

I was playing with one of my tracks the other day and happened to notice that the guitars, bass and drums sounded almost exactly like the guitars in Long Cool Woman..... interesting.

I haven't used this feature in a while but it's certainly a lot of fun and most times an effective way to capture the groove of a song without using the actual song midi file. This process creates a custom user midi style from a midi file. It's pretty straight forward to do. If I recall, the file must be stored in a specific folder and the StyleMaker rebuilt for the new style to be included in StyleMaker list and accessible.
