Something a little different, from me. See what you think. Thanks for listening.

(P.S. I simply must sort out this mic problem. I have a new laptop, the old mic sounds very different on this new laptop of mine, I'm currently recorded with the laptop's in-built mic, and mics are expensive, for me, at least ... argh ... ah well, must stop whining about it ...)

I'm Sorry, Little Child

THE LYRICS:

I'm sorry, little child,
They cannot help you, tonight.
Their loved one awaits them, see,
With kisses and soft promises.
I'm sorry, little child,
They cannot help you, tonight.

I'm sorry, little child,
They cannot help you, tonight.
They say they have too much to bear,
You live too far away for them to truly care.
I'm sorry, little child,
They cannot help you, tonight.

I'm sorry, little child,
I cannot help you, tonight.
They've put the fear of God in me,
So that I may not speak up, you see.
I'm sorry, little child,
I cannot help you, tonight.

I'm sorry, little child,
I cannot help you, tonight.
I'm scared of what they'll say,
And, even if I raise my voice, it may all be in vain.
I'm sorry, little child,
I cannot help you, tonight.

I'm sorry, little child,
I cannot help you, tonight.
For, even if I somehow took a stand,
They'd just make me join you, ten feet under the ground.
I'm sorry, little child,
We cannot help you, tonight.

James, a sadly spoken song.
Nice backing tracks.
I really think you should get a better mic as this one doesn't do your voice any favors.
But I know how money can be really tight - been there-done that - and sometimes back there again.

I want my last spoken words to be "I hid a million dollars under the........................"

Hi, James.

Good write.

No money? Just keep doing with what you've got!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

James, sad and evocative tune. Nicely produced, I like the sparse arrangement. Your voice conveys emotion remarkably well, I wouldn't over-worry about the source of the mic. Thanks for posting!

James,

Another emotionally charged vocal as only you can do... Great lyrics and a great performance.

James,

Sad.
The vocal is easily understood (without a lyric). It is less "boom-y" than some of your past vocals (which is good), there is a good deal of siblance which is easily dealt with in your DAW.
Those "'s's" show up in your DAW as a very tight wav pattern - typically shaped like a football (American). You can cut on either side of that and then reduce the volume (or do that with a volume envelope). You can reduce it to ALMOST nothing - leave a little to keep it sounding natural.

Nicely done.

Hi James,

As I've said before, you own the spoken word music genre on these forums. A sad song, for sure. Your vocals always display the right amount and inflection for each of your songs.

I, too, have a brand new laptop - my old desktop bit the dust about three weeks ago and took almost all my new projects with it. Just another challenge to recreate them, I guess.

As David Cuny, said - we make do with what we have. Other than the "s" issues, your voice sounds fine.

Another excellent piece of work from you!

Alan

Mario: yes, I think that, one way or another, I must indeed find a new mic - or make the old one somehow work with this laptop. One way or another smile - but I cannot use the laptop's own mic, that much is clear. Thanks so much for listening to this new song of mine!

David Cuny: thanks! I'll change the mic, though, because it makes me sound real bad, I think!

Ron: thank you. Ever so kind!

Bob: that's such a high compliment - and, coming from an artist like yourself, that's really made my day! Thank you!

floyd: thanks for the tip!!! I will see what I can do about the sibilance, but I don't think it was such a problem with my old mic ... no idea why, but I need to deal with it, either way smile

Ed: long time no see. Good to see you're well, and thank you for your thoughtful comment!

Alan: thank you. It really was a song that I felt I simply had to write.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
