Hi Folks.
This was in the works for a few weeks, but after reading news today of Navalny, I wanted to release this. I never lived in Russia and don't know much about programs Navalny proposed, but I have a great respect for the man who stood up to one of the most autocratic and brutal dictators of our time... with a smile. All comments are welcomed and thank you for listening.

Signs

It's getting colder by the Day,
Hatred is feeding dogs of violence,
Echoes of the voices that got silenced,
Bouncing of the walls of prison cells

Let it be a warning siren
Fresh tattoo that's burning
gulp of air to drowning
Nail in your shoe that's hurting
Damocles sword lost patience,
Pendulum - undecided.
Long cracks in foundation-keep running

After a long dark night,
Sun will rise and melt the snow.
Through the ages tales unfold,
Through the pictograms on walls.

Let it be a warning siren,
Fresh tattoo that's burning,
Gulp of air to drowning,
Nail in your shoe that's hurting.
Damocles sword lost patience
Pendulum - undecided
Long cracks in foundation-keep running

Misha, that certainly is a timely submission. This is a fine tribute to the tortured Navalny. Well put together, the guitar solo was outstanding. Nicely sung in your signature style. You sure know how to get the best out of BIAB, Tom

PERFECT! Man, you are the lyric master, Misha. These are no exception. Oddly (maybe), my favorite line is "Pendulum - undecided." We'd all be better off if the pendulum wasa the one that actually decided. You are quite timely with this one. Good write and so well mixed. I like the pounding beat as if to say, "Get it?" Yep.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Misha,
the news is sad as well as bad.
So many people in the world have to stand up to or flee from neo-facist governments at present that the dream of the pursuit of happiness seems almost lost.
Time after time Navalny stepped back into the ring knowing the likely outcome.
Assange is a similar figure but being persecuted by a "democracy".
Your song, in word, sound and impact, reflects my fears very well.
Thank you for putting voice to them so expertly.

Cheers

Well, this is what songwriting can be at the pinnacle. Simply breathtaking. The concept and execution are sublime. LOVE the BGVs on the 2nd verse. No more words for me...

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Misha, I love when your songs pop up on the forum because they always bring something fresh, and very otherworldly to the mix.

I think I may have asked you this before but how would you compare or describe the style of the music? Would you say that it has Russian influences or Baltic influences or Slovakian influences, or just Eastern European influences?

What word would you use to describe that sound? It sounds kind of Russian to me but I'm certainly no expert on all the different varieties in genres from that part of the world.

It sounds great though!!

P.S. You say you have never lived in Russia, but is that where your family ancestry comes from or is it from a different country?

Hi Misha,

I was very shocked when I heard the news about the murder on Navalny.
I didn't realise to be that shocked, because we all could know how his life would end.
That crazy butcher who caused it only stands for death and destruction.

But about your song: Very, very good.
Nice rhythm and your dark voice is well suited for these lyrics of yours.
I love everything I heard, so thumbs up, but for an inky subject...

Nice day,
Hans

I was quite saddened by the news of Navalny but I can't say that I was surprised.
My prediction is that his story will find its way into classroom history books around the world, perhaps one day even in Russia.

Hatred is feeding dogs of violence,
Echoes of the voices that got silenced

Well done and keep singing the truth.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Misha, The timing of this is just perfect!
The death of Navalny was sad but IMHO predictable. Anyone whom threatens Putin doesn't live very long.
Great song and mix.
This is really a great song.

Sad subject, indeed. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end to the saga. But I'm glad you raised positive signs, that Sun will rise and echoes will be bouncing.
Nice chord progression, kind of folky feeling with nicely used major chords.
The arrangement is once again very vivid soundscape, interesting combination of synths and guzheng, great solo guitar.
I enjoyed your stating and vibrating vocal style.

Janne

This is powerful, Misha.

The drums made us think of the evil that is marching all across the globe these days and we hope the tide will turn soon. This line stood out for us in that hope:

“After a long dark night,
Sun will rise and melt the snow.”

Excellent lyric, vocal and band!

Hi Rustyspoon#,

As always, your pleasant and well-written song touches me greatly. Dictators commit despicable crimes against their populations and against the populations attacked by these dictators. Democracy is in great danger. Many people seem to want to ignore it unless danger comes to their door and their comfort of life is called into question, but it will be too late, as history teaches us, we do not let's not learn lessons.

Thank for sharing
Jani

Kindly regards

I am somewhat familiar with the backstory inspiring your song and it sounds as though you've captured the essence required in the sound and lyrics to bring the story forth!
I am always amazed at the complexity of your songs and you have done a wonderful job creating this one!

Take care, TB

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
