I got over a weird virus and started writing this about the outlaw but couldn't find any redeeming characteristics about him
so turned it around as a cautionary tale.
Maybe the solo is a little too long.
What do you all think?

You don't wanna be John Wesley Hardin
© Vic Arnold 2024

Your daddy, the preacher, who you couldn't copy
and you once a teacher with so much to say.
But you took to the gambling, mis-taught everybody
Drank yourself bad. Led your goodness astray.

You got no time for those that wish you undone
If they mean harm they'd better not tell
Everyone knows now for sure you won't run
A shotgun or pistol can send them to hell
Ch.
But you don't wanna be John Wesley Hardin
and you know you're a fool to be living this way.
Remorseful tears won't serve you no pardon
When you speak your last words at the end of your days.
Inst.
"No rest for the wicked" so it says in an old line.
You don't want to be you but can't find the way.
Life was much harder... back in the old times?
But it don't mean a damn if that's all you can say.
Ch.2
No you don't wanna be John Wesley Hardin
and you know you're a fool to be living this way.
You're digging your grave in what should be your garden.
"Four sixes to beat." The last words you'll say.

Vic,

This is an absolutely great song...

Love the instrumentation and lyrics. Your vocal delivery is perfect with some very cool backup vocals. Awesome mix.

A new favorite.

Vic, super tune! The acoustic canopy you built across the arrangement supports your vocals perfectly. No, the guitar solo isn't too long at all. I could have listened to it a bit longer. Maybe all day. Ha! Great cautionary tale indeed. "Four sixes to beat" is a great exit line. Glad you're feeling better!

Great song Vic. I loved the story you put forth and thought the intro was very cool. You've really got a way with Western songs! I thought some of the BGV's were a little off, but that could just be me.

Hi Vic,

A really good song - perfect instrumentation for the story. Good selection of tracks and other intro was terrific! Liked everything about it - nicely done!

Glad that virus finally let you go. Stay healthy!

Hi Vic,

First we looked up the story of John Wesley Hardin.
Now we understand the lyrics.
Sad story and so is this song. But it's a very good song, a real Western!
Good music and nice vocals.
The solo is not too long to our taste.

Vic...I always love your tunes...and you always have a great mix...IMO the solo was not too long because it was excellent...great storytelling...it's interesting how heroes and outlaws get all the cool tunes! I really enjoyed the listen!

Vic, very good old west outlaw song. The instrumentation is perfect for this. Your vocal is just the right fit. The solo sounds good as does the whole production. Well done, Tom

Hey Brad.
I did pay the backing vocals another visit. I hope they're synced better now.

Vic, this is an outstanding song.
Your vocal and lyrics reminded me of John Prine.
Everything is perfect.
Outstanding guitar work also.

Thank you. I do love a bit of 19th.c history although the lyric isn’t all about the outlaw. Life seemed so much simpler then but harder.

Thank you Dan.
Yes, that is interesting, particularly as it’s not much of a story, more of a wagging finger.
Imagine trying to write a song about a modern day outlaw. The old ones are easiest because the information on them isn’t so clear cut and so can be more easily re-interpreted.

Hi Vircan,

Very pretty composition which lends itself to meditation. The construction is well done. The guitar playing is impeccable. Well written lyrics. I appreciated.

I love the instrumentation in this.

Interesting little tale! It's another nice song from you!
I was having trouble clearly hearing what you were saying! I don't know if the vocal needs to come up in the mix or if it needs some extra eq work, I was listening with earbuds! I felt the guitar solo length was just right! Overall a pretty darn good song!

Thanks, TB

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
