The trials and tribulations encountered in my mMaj7 thread have inspired me to
create this thread on RealTracks. smile

I would like to learn (if possible) how RealTracks (RT) are manufactured from start to finish.

It is my understanding that RealTracks are created by real musicians. I don’t know whether they must use real instruments exclusively or they can also use syths to create their tracks?

Do these real musicians record their ‘tracks’ in a special studio? If so, do all the musicians record their tracks in the same place? If not, can they record their tracks in any music studio?
Can they record their tracks in a home studio?

Are the musicians given songs or sets of changes to record at various tempi?
Are they asked to record one or two bar tracks, or longer tracks which will then be chopped up into smaller segments?
Are they asked to record the changes in all 12 keys or just a few which will then be ‘pitch bent’ to cover all 12 keys?

Do they record their changes with a click track and nothing else, or with other accompaniment?
What software are they/engineer recording their changes with?

If they are recording jazz tracks, will they be asked to record all of the chords in the standard jazz vocabulary?
Will they be given a complete list of chords to record?
Will they be asked to record each chord in a certain number of chord inversions?

I think this is a good starting point for this thread. smile

This may answer some of your questions:
https://www.pgmusic.com/usertracks1.htm

My understanding is that the basic process for realtracks shouldn't be too different.

Thanks Cerio for this, I wasn't familiar with usertracks. I remember hearing about them years ago.
This would definitely answer a number of questions I asked if the process for creating RealTracks is the same/similar.

If the process is the same then the tracks could be recorded in the musician's home studio.
It seems the musicians would be given a set of changes to play.
And further down on the page with the link you gave, it seems that the longer the chart of changes given, the more complex the chords can be in the final RealTrack.

The video you linked to had four keys covered. It seems that was sufficient enough for BIAB to
then add in all the remaining keys.

With RealTracks some are basic compared to others that may have more material and more keys.
If you want to create UserTracks don't use the 1min UserTrack templates as they are useless.
The more material recorded the better but the bigger the file will be especially if they are stereo tracks.
PG need to make UserTracks be made to allow for Midi UserTracks, this will let you correct any chord easily, you can use a midi synth to create UserTracks, you can also upload the UserTrack as Midi then the users can render them to wav using any VSTi they like.
If you look here Guitar, Acoustic, Nylon Multi Ev8 120
and here Multi Variations UserTracks Feedback ?????
they will give you an idea of what you can do in the 2024 version of Biab.

Hi Marcello,

The web page below is all about how to create User Tracks and contains tutorial videos. User Tracks can be created in either Realband or BIAB. It's also possible to assemble the audio files in a DAW and then move into RB or BIAB.

https://www.pgmusic.com/usertracks1.htm

Below is a video on how to do it in Realband. It's worth watching even if you are planning to use BIAB as the process is pretty much the same in both programs.

Regards,
--Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
