Hi,

I've been using these together for slightly different purposes for some time, but I do find the process with them all frustrating as I'm doing similar things several times over. Maybe that's just how it is, but I wondered if anyone had any better shortcuts than I.

I usually start with a printed score, or photo thereof, from someone else and/or from a download from the Musescore website. I first create a once-through leadsheet in Musescore, including any intro, coda and first/second endings, then export to MusicXML before adding any repeats into Musescore and saving it. I then export as a .pdf ready for later import into MobileSheetsPro or printing.

I then open-special the MusicXML in BiaB, move the melody to the melody track, set up the song structure in BiaB, find a suitable style and save that.

Then I enter the chord progression again into iRealPro and again set repeats and choose a style.

My suspicion is that this is as efficient as I can get at present, but any tips on improvements would be welcome.

Thanks.

I’m not sure from your description why both BIAB and iRealPro are involved. Perhaps you could start the problem description with what you want to have as your final product(s)?

Ah, yes.

I use BiaB at home for practicing, but I take iRealPro with me to band sessions where normally I use it only as a means to display a chord sheet. Only occasionally do I link it to the amplifier.

Printed .pdf file I use in sunlight where the tablet isn't so good.

Pushing this in a slightly different direction, because this is the only thread I have found with a reference to iReal Pro, do you, or anyone else on here, know whether it is possible to import to BiaB a chord sequence already entered into iReal Pro. Like the OP, I'm seeking to minimise the amount of repetitive preparatory work I'm doing. Background is that I have been using MobileSheets and iReal Pro on a split screen and I now want to substitute BiaB as my accompaniment. Don't relish the thought of putting all those chord sequences in a second time. If there is no specific import function, is it just a matter of copy and paste between the chord display screens of the two programs? (Not tried that yet.)

Sorry - I have now looked at threads further down this page, and I see there is quite a lot of discussion about importing iReal chords into BiaB. I'll get reading those.

Having looked at other threads, I now have to give a thank you to Matt Finley. Your MUSICMXL instructions worked for me.

Indeed, I would like to see what someone found valuable. Is it something that should be in the Tips & Tricks Forum?

I used ms copilot to search the pg forums for Matt’s experiences exporting iRealPro chord charts and using them in Band-in-a-Box

It returned these results

Thanks. I see we hit a few snags so I did not continue with the project. Seven years ago …

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
