Hi everyone, Here is a new song I made, using two Styles from BiaB; Balk and Backlot. Both in a very slow tempo, 60 bpm. I think I never went that low before. It's called: Something wrong, https://on.soundcloud.com/j6aDp I also made a video from it. It's on YouTube
This video starts as a concert. I chose that point of view, because I used a 'life audience choir', by Jacob Collier, from Native Instruments (free). So, if you have an audience, you also need a life performance...
The lyrics are on SoundCloud and in the video, so I skip them here. One note: In the text I have used the word 'apps' where others prefer the word 'text'. Google translate and ChatGPT made clear I made no mistake. My sister in Australia said I did. So I left it as it is ;-) Let me know what you think, what to improve (beside 'apps') or whatever comes up in your mind while listening/ watching to the song.
Hans ============================================== As I said I worked with two styles and here is the technical stuff:
Style is BALK.STY alternated by BACKLOT.STY Tempo: 60 Bpm Key: E RealTracks used in song: 3117:Bass, Acoustic, and 3546 Bass el. 3088:Piano, ElectricVintage 3909:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking and 3661 guit, ac rhythm 3792:Guitar, Baritone Electric, Rhythm Cinematic128 Sw 050 4208:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ModCountrySlow128PowerHeldPlus Sw 050 2876: Fiddle, background America Slow RealDrums in style:AmericanaSlow128 and Modern Country Slow 128 Keyboard in Daw for playing life audience choir
Hey, Hans, I just listened a few times, but found nothing wrong. Ha! Thanks so much for letting me hear this song as it was progressed, and, man, I really like how you make video, too. I'm with ChatGPT or whoever said apps was a good word for text. There are a lot of different apps to use for text. Text is about the words and apps is about the software. Nuf said.
Really, really beautiful song! One of your best. The choir was beautiful, too - thanks for telling us about it, I'm downloading a copy of it for myself, now, too Excellent job - well done!
Brilliant song with a really well put together video, but I particularly love the instrumentation and production, including that gorgeous violin. An epic.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #17: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #69: Bring consciousness to it. #74: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
Thanks for your messages and listening/watching the song. It was the first video I made with moving scenes and a different way of adding lyrics in it. Took me hours, but I have learned a lot. The fun parts were adjusting the images to the audio. That went well for the piano and the violin. Because of that 'live audience' software, I had to add a band, as I wrote. And some silly stuff, like that cat. But you all liked it, as I could see from your reactions. Thanks for that!

Marty, when I send you that first concept of this song, you reacted very kindly (as usual), but then the song was not even close to the result now. But you asked for a song to review, so I had to hurry. I read you were amazed the audience admit there was something wrong (in my head), but now you wrote you could find nothing of that anymore. Was the audience wrong??? And thanks for confirming that the use of the word "app" wasn't that bad.

Floyd, like you, I sing a lot about things that did not really happen, but they could have. And on rare occassions you /I sing the truth ;-) But we make songs people like. Yours more than mine, but still... and I am glad you liked this one and felt that heartbreak. Thanks!

David, if you say computers can be wrong, I agree. I don't do that with everyone, of course, but I consider you as our Wizz kid! If you had seen the video I'm sure you would have some advice on the do's and don'ts, ore have you seen it...?

Bob, thanks for bringing John up again. Bud and Janice would be delighted if they read that. And actually, I am too! To tell you the truth: I had a cold some days before and you could still hear that, or at least, I can. Maybe that makes my vocals better, having a cold??? Thanks a lot for your nice comment.
Thank you for listening to this song and watching the video! I was pleased by your comment, although a label like 'one of my best' is something I don't get used to.

PS- great chord progression.
Hi Mario, you always give me such nice comments! I appreciate that, but is it my best? Well, I love some of my other songs more, but this one is not bad, I agree on that ;-)

Hello Ellioth, all is wrong! She lied to me! The audience yelled that something was wrong in my head, my cat hates me... What else can you call this??? No, I'm fooling a bit. Thanks for your compliments.

James, I hope that audience in your copy is more friendly to you. You can make them clap more too! Thank you for your compliments and lots of succes with that copy!

Hi Wao, yes I also like violins, but sometimes it is difficult to use them in a 'strong' way. Here it was good and the video about that piece too, because it looked like she really played that audio part.
Hans, wow, super song! Love the BIG sonic landscape and your instrument choices. REALLY love your vocals and the vocal FX chain(s) you are using suits the song and your voice perfectly. Nicely written and arranged, too. Superb job!

Excellent work. Best Regards Nigel
Hello Nigel, thanks for the compliments and your suggestions. In my post I've invited you all to tell me what I can do better (or not) and you did. That's good! But I will explain to you why your suggestions didn't make me alter the song ;-) 1. The reverb. You are right. I used more reverb on the vocals than I would do normally. But because I used that 'concert' audio (with all their reverb in it) in the song, and made it looks like a concert, my vocals needed more reverb too. Otherwise both things don't match (for me). 2. I love violins and cello's. In my former song I had a 'chopping' cello. A friend of me said some days ago he not only doesn't like violins, he hates them. I told him that is because of our cultural difference. Now he hates me too. You don't sound like him, but you obvious prefer guitars more than violins. Well, take a look at the video and you understand why to love violins... No, seriously, I often use guitars for solo's but this violin was great in this song. So I think it's no more than a matter of taste. But keep coming with suggestions on my songs. I -sometimes- follow them...

Hi Ron, I just wrote a comment on your song 'Got to close tonight' with it's great chorus. Thanks for your compliments. I had a cold and you could still hear that in my voice. Maybe you love them more then my 'normal' vocals? We'll see about that when I have a new song...

Alan, thanks a lot for this nice comment. I just wrote you a comment on your Trumpet song. Great one, by the way. Your song is something completely different from mine and I'm always amazed why a Jazz orientated musician can love these ballads too. But of course you can counter this by asking me the same thing in reverse. And I have no answer to that. Maybe I just love good songs...?
This is a very good song. Well sung and great tracks. The video matches the lyrics very well. Everything the audience shout, fits in very well and is an interesting addition.

We are Rob Meulman and Anne-Marie Bovenkamp from The Netherlands.
Bit different than your bluesy songs, but actually this is very catchy one, I haven't heard this refreshing and original sounding song on this forum for a long time. 3/4 is a brave choice and it really works, showing your enormous talent.
Nothing wrong would be a better title, because there is nothing wrong with the lyrics or the person in the story Falling in love and longing nicely expressed.
The chord progression is really beautiful and the melody sounds very natural. Sort of gospel-like mood which is highlighted by the shouts and the choir (I think I have to use that NI instrument). The fiddle solo fits very well. And when all those play together, the song sounds very powerful and alive, Beatles and Coldplay came to my mind.
And your vocal delivery is smooth and the harmonies sound great. Overall, this is spiritually very uplifting song, and together with the video made my day.
Thanks for all the compliments and that sentence about 'apps', Brain. He made me do a lot of homework. And here is the result. A link to the updated song on YouTube:

Hoi Rob en Anne Marie, leuk om weer wat van jullie te horen. Druk, druk, druk?? In English: Yeah, that software with the audience was fun. You know they even recorded the audience in Amsterdam. I think the 'maybe' comes from there...

Hi Brain, you caused me a lot of work! I searched again everywhere about the apps. And (among others) you were right it was wrong. So the title of the song was right after all! I changed parts of the song and also replaced some video images I thought weren't that functional. I hoped to replace the video too, but it was not possible. So there is another version there now. And all that because of 4 words! But thanks.

Hi Janne, you always choose so nice words to express what you think of the song. Thanks for that! Not Beatles or so, but Popfinger came up in my head... (is this also nice?). Indeed, I think you need a copy of that software too. With your AI vocals that could be something! I think the new/updated video will make your day a bit more. Take a look and tell me if I was right ;-)

Hello David, what nice you listened to it. Before I recorded my vocals, I had a cold and it wasn't over yet. Maybe I need a permanent flu on the vocal cords? Hope not... Thanks for your compliments.
I love that slow bluesy walking down pattern! It always gets me interested! Your drum sounds here are great as are the use of special effects! This has unexpected elements such as the fiddle solo! It all sounds great to me! The best part is your vocals....raw emotion is coming through especially in that bridge section! Very good work Hans! TB
Oh John, you’ve never sounded better. 😉 Really though, Hans, it's the timbre of your voice and your phrasing that are so wonderfully reminiscent of Lennon.
You put together some great session guys and the fiddle adds to the heartbreak vibe.
The lyric along the build in the arrangement are excellent and the video is cool with the live audience scenes interspersed.
I listened and watched the latest version. A lot of work has gone into the video and it's very well done. I enjoyed the song and the concept. Very nicely done.
The stand outs form this song are as follows: Your vocal. This is your strongest vocal performance I've heard so far. Excellent in all aspects. That electric piano gives the whole song a cool and unique sound. The mix is clear and crisp. Darn good song!
Hi Torrey, Jannice and Bud, Scott, Peter, Scott S and Dave
Thank you all for your very encouraging words. These words make me want to make more songs ;-)

Torrey, I'glad you mentioned that violin as unexpected instrument. I love strings, but you can't always use them. Some here said they expected a roaring guitar. But the violin was very applicable here and very beautiful. Also a little different. I like that and apparently you do too! And thanks of what you say about the vocals. like that, but I still think yours beat mine.

Bud, and Janice, your post sounds so nice. I almost can't believe all those compliments, so take it easy... I already told some here John is back and it is me. and I have proof from America!!! But what I think is the most nice part of your post? Now we are both fans from eachother :-))

Peter, I'm glad you listened to the newest version on YT. I am still not so familiair with YT, it's the 3rd more real video I made, but I always get confused of what they are asking and so on. I didn't know you can't replace a video. I think that has to change. You can always make a mistake on something, but before you know it you have 6 videos of the same thing... But thanks you liked the song and that new video. The work was about half a day, because I learned how to expose the lyrics and to put movies in movies. I like doing that. Mostly, creating a good story is a challenge.

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used.
