Lost in You

This is one of my early attempts at songwriting (decades ago) that I haven't recorded except on a cassette with an acoustic. It was a bit of a toss off song: it had two verses and a chorus. I liked the chorus, so I decided to resurrect it for fun. I added a cheap and easy bridge but kept the same mundane lyrics. It's a slightly frenetic power pop ditty that clocks in at just under two and a half minutes.

The Wrecking Crew:

3931 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AltRockFastChugMute
4065 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ModernPopFastRockPowerStrum2
2586 Guitar, Electric, Soloist PunkMurray
Native Instruments Electric Mint

Night has broken
Hearts haven’t spoken
Waiting for the other one to call

Hiding from my fear
Wishing that you were here
Wondering if we could love at all

Too much time lost in you
Shadow on the light of everything I do
Too much time lost in you

As I drive away
Hoping for another day
When I can hold you again

Deep into the night
Giving up without a fight
Knowing that this may be the end

Too much time lost in you
Shadow on the light of everything I do
Too much time lost in you

Daylight pulls my senses through
Close my eyes, picture the view

Too much time lost in you
Shadow on the light of everything I do
Too much time lost in you

Hi Scott ...

Good one! Glad you gave it some polish and posted it. Sounds to me this could have been a hit for one of the late 70s and early 80s hard rock groups. You got a real nice sound outta that lead guitar - nice riff!

We don't have a lot of this style of music on the forum, so really glad to hear it. After mt foot quits tapping - can't seem to stop it - I'll get my shower and go to bed.

Nice one to end my short listening experience this very early morning.

Best to you,

Alan

This is a cool, fun song Scott.

Love the frenetic energy!

The whole thing is a hoot.

I would love to hear that retro cassette version.

Also, love that photograph.

Is that you??

Some super rock in this one.
I really liked the groove and vocals.
A real toe tapper.

When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"

Thanks, Alan. I would like to live off of some royalties from a hit.

David, Thanks. The cassette melted in my truck. The pic isn't me. I got it off the net.

Got my most recent check/deposit from BMI a few weeks back. $21.82. Guess I can buy that new car now!

Scott, nice save! Definitely has a kind of big hair band vibe, and yes, those royalty checks should be rolling in. Love your vocals and harmonies. Nice instrument choices and they're well arranged and mixed. Sonically, this just sounds GREAT to me. A whole lotta fun...

Whoa!! An in-your-face opening, like holding out a hand and latching on to a speeding train. I really like your vocals (as you know). Terrific harmony, too. Excellent mix and choice of instrumentation. I thought royalty checks was done by a secret committee investigating the king. In 1990 I started a publishing company called Mello-Dee-O'-Dough, and so far the only dough on the ledger is a red $30 --the cost of registering the name.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks, Marty. I'm more comfortable singing the rockers, so I like my voice better here than on the previous song.

I enjoyed this - energetic and a good story.
The only nit I have is that the main rhymes in the 1st verse (all/call?) end with the same not & inflection...I'd loved it if the 2nd one did an octave jump or even a 5th.
Cool song.

Cheers

Really great production and mix, and a fun song!! Vocals are very well performed but I think they could be processed in a way that is more intense and gritty (more saturation, delay, maybe distortion?). Very well done!! Take care. Greg

Good hard driving chug rock!
Excellent band with plenty of needed distortion for the vibe.
But not so much the fine mix gets overly dense. Good guitar solo too.
It all creates an urgency and passion in the vocals and the band.

And those vocals are strong and carry the lyric most excellently.
Speaking of which we much like this:
“Too much time lost in you
Shadow on the light of everything I do”

Glad you resurrected it!

Cool song.
Thanks, Ray. I didn't want to change anything (well, except adding a bridge) to keep the song as a comparison to my current songs.

Great song! Very energetic rocker - perfectly suited for your vocals. I've always thought your vocals are good, but they really shine in things like this. The writing is simple and easy to follow .... fits the feel of the song perfectly. This one is just plain old fashioned rock'n'roll fun!
