Something So Right

https://www.reverbnation.com/kaynemusic/song/34522837-something-so-right

This is jazz piece I wrote a while back. I finally found a singer who can do it justice. It has interesting chords with all sorts of Flat Fives, Minor 9s, 11, 13, diminished and demented. crazy

Its late at night / and its snowing
Its cold outside / the wind is blowin
I call you up / say come on over
I know its wrong / Im under the covers
Its Something so wrong / is Something so Right

I am all alone / and there is no one to play with
A little bit drunk / and feel like some mischief
There’s a knock on my door / I smile as I open
I know its wrong / but I am a hoping
That Something so wrong / is Something so Right

Ah- I miss you baby
Wish you were here in my arms
Wish that I could hold you baby
And give to you my
Something so Something so Right

Hi Elliott,

Really enjoyed this song - excellent tune, backing and vocals.

The only small suggestion - take away her breaths (in your DAW) before each phrase to give it a professional finish.

Best Regards
Nigel

Elliott, I love the music in this. You are very versatile. Cool jazz sound here. I agree with Nigel regarding taking some of the gasps for air out. I think the vocalists does a good job, but that may it sound more polished.

Elliott, what a super song.
You found the perfect singer for this ultimate jazz song.
Super use of RTs.
I could hear Ella Fitzgerald singing this one.
Great mix.

PS - gotta love those demented chords. I have played a few of them myself, but not intentionally.

Thanks for listening, and the constructive comments. I edited out all the breaths. I originally left them in to get a more "live" sound, but you guy are 100% right ... it does sound more polished without them.

Hi Elliot,

What a great song. This is my kind of music. Although I played country all my life, I've always loved easy-listening jazz. And this is truly easy listening. Your vocalist did a great job on this. Love the chord structure. I've been known to use an odd chord here and there. Adds a little texture to the experience!

Really, really nice! Loved my listen.

Elliott, this is sweet! Nice tune, and cool jazz vocals. Very effective little dynamic movements in the arrangement to keep it interesting. Just a very enjoyable listen!

Nicely done, Elliott.
This is not an easy style to get right but you did a great job capturing the feel. The vocals sit perfectly with the intimate jazz club groove.
Keep ‘em coming.

Cool and laidback song. Nice use of the style and love the sax, and the expressive vocals work really well. I didn't even notice the in-breaths others have mentioned.

Very nicely done Elliott!! Singer does a great job......I'm a little turned on right now!! You did a great job mixing the band.....really clean with a great sense of space!! I'm going to have to check out this combo! BTW, did you know Paul Simon has a song of this title....very different vibe but worth listening to if you get a chance. Take care. Greg

I don't know who the singer is, but she is fabulous. I love the classic sound. Sounds like a standard hit to me.
You nailed the hook with "Its Something so wrong / is Something so Right."

Excellent! It's very reminiscent of the time when one could discover fine vocal jazz on Ed Sullivan and other sources.
The mix is outstanding on our monitors. Great drums and a very clean and dynamic acoustic bass.

This is right in our wheelhouse and we much enjoyed it!

You have found an excellent singer, she does justice to the inviting lyrics, although maybe her voice still needs some polishing in the mix to tame some edges. The band is pleasantly jazzy and I enjoyed your "demented" chords smile

This style of jazz is not my cuppa.... however, that aside.......

this is very well done. Excellent in fact.
Really nice mix and use of the tracks and the singer just nailed it.
