A recurring theme here is everybody's holy grail feature that keeps them hanging onto other DAW software. So, here in one thread, maybe we can capture the "must have" features we'd like to see in RB someday. It's always nice to get a "to do" list all one one page.

1) VSTi capability that rivals the other companies is probably at the top of the list, because that one feature automatically provides equivalence (and the unique features put you over the top)

2) Ability to create acid-type loops or groove clips from any audio or midi phrase (like Sonar or Acid)

3) The ability to loop through the same passage recording many takes that can be merged/edited into one "best" version (like Sonar and probably others)

4) ability to edit pitch and timing of individual audio notes (much like melodyne)

5) envelopes

what are the "must-have" features that keep YOU holding onto some other DAW?

Pat i like your list and can't think of anything more. The least interesting to me is the melodyne feature. That would be great, but i think very difficult and costly. I would hate to see that program cost as much as Sonar or melodyne. The VSTi issue is no 1. for me, and secondly the Looping tools would be great. And envelopes would knock my socks off. I use the automation feature but it is clunky and does not respond well like a good envelope tool.

Lenovo Win 10 16 gig ram, Mac mini with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2022, Realband, Harrison Mixbus 32c version 9.1324, Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app, Komplete 49 key controller.

I'm basically just accumulating a lot of people's thoughts into one place. If nothing ever changes, I'll still be a fan of this software. But if any of the above features are ever added, I think a certain %age of people would abandon their other software and rely on this suite as a total music-making solution

The VSTi implementation (concerning tempo compatability) gets #1 here too.

A personal one is the flashing yellow warning messages could be shorter. Maybe longer the first time they flash, but shorter from then on? Sometimes I am done with the edit before it's done flashing. Something like the fade out takes a few seconds but the flashing lasts 10 seconds or so (it seems)
As a side note I do appreciate the newer 'edit-audio effects' shortcut in the right-click menu of the audio edit screen; and when used from that screen there is no flashing message (yay!)
I hope I didn't point out something you will now change ...

Having "The ability to loop through the same passage recording many takes that can be merged/edited into one "best" version" (as mentioned by OP) would be pretty cool also, if each loop recorded to a new track. I could see that taxing some systems, but for the ones that can handle it, it would be nice.

Also, at start up, if I don't have the external drive hooked up (that has the realtracks on it) when I start the program I have to dance through 3 windows (a couple "are you sure" windows)
How about a "Do you want to set up realtracks?" window instead of the current popup that attempts to set them up?
Then if I click "no" I don't have to go through the next few windows (vouching for my decision), and if I do want to set them up I can click "yes" and get to the setup window that is currently the first popup?

Not sure how many this would be beneficial to, maybe only me, but I often record, mix and do mastering work in RB without needing the external (realtracks) drive running.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Pat I have real limited experience with other DAWS but it seems to me some of them must have a better form of Automation (maybe simpler than PG's).

So add that to your list. Ah - my bad - already listed as envelopes.

People stay with what they are most familiar I guess - pardon the very bad pun but I guess it's a case of teaching old DAWgs, new tricks.

There are two activities that force me to use another sequencer (usually SONAR).

The first is the ability to use standardized (acidized) audio loops. I can't help but think that this capability would go a long way toward satisfying the many requests for very specific RealTracks in order to expand the sound palette without using MIDI.

The second is the ability to import video for soundtrack work.

I don't expect to see video capability anytime soon in RealBand, but I would hope that audio loop capability is not a major development effort and would compliment the RealTracks. Maybe a RealTrack template that would allow audio loops to be inserted would be possible and would give RealBand an intelligent application of audio loops above and beyond the standard capability in other sequencers.

...Just a wish for the wishlist

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
