This is likely of little interest given the paucity of streamers on this forum  and no intent to appear braggadocio - we just found it surprising. We were notified three days ago that our song Time Passes (video is currently on the User Showcase Forum) has been placed on a very popular Spotify playlist. We’ve been on scores of lists over the years but nothing like this one. It has nearly 300,000 followers and a projected number of 10-12,000 plays for the 4 weeks we will be on it. The list consists of almost all big name acts with many millions of streams. Very few mere mortals like us get placed on it. As our friend and guitar partner PeterF said, “we’re sandwiched in between the little known artists Fleetwood Mac and Paul McCartney!” referring to our spot on the list. Beats me 🤷♂️ but we’ll take it! Thanks for putting up with me! Bud

Thanks everyone for ALL of the nice comments. For those who aren't Spotify users I should mention that while this is a large number for J&B it's tiny compared to what many, many indie artists whom we've never heard of get. Spotify does not even show the count unless it reaches 1,000 and we only have five songs that have met that or greater. But hey, it's more than one would expect from just family and friends. So we'll take the earnings and raise a pint glass to you ... oops don't think the income would cover even one glass. J&B

The problem with Spotify and other easy-entry distribution sites is that there are so many songs by so many artists uploaded every day. For someone who doesn't know you already, it's hard to find you. But you are getting a follwing, so hopefully they will tell their friends who will tell their friends, and you will become well known.

The problem with Spotify and other easy-entry distribution sites is that there are so many songs by so many artists uploaded every day. For someone who doesn't know you already, it's hard to find you. But you are getting a follwing, so hopefully they will tell their friends who will tell their friends, and you will become well known. Thanks. That's what playlists are all about. For example after placement on this list the song has been added to 26 more playlists by users who heard it. One of our tunes was placed on a popular blues/blues rock/Americana list and the curator asked for a bio and photos of Janice which he featured on a lot of social media and his website. He also has a YouTube channel where his video selections get hundreds of thousands or even a million views. But they are all pro level productions. But, hey, this has absolutely nothing to do with the financial side of music. I booked/managed/recorded rock bands in the 60's while in college and the $ helped and afterwards I played in bands off and on for 30+ years while working (40 years in state government) but it was all about fun ... until it wasn't and we left our last band 16 years ago. So, although approximately 100,000 songs are uploaded to the platforms daily we just want to try and carve out a tiny little niche for us. Income? Ha ha ... we earned 63 whole dollars off Spotify last year. Bud
