Top photo was the upgrade to the strat pickup. The second pic is the upgrade to the tele pickup. It's gone. I decided to go all the way to the dark side with this guitar. The chrome tele pickup was useless to me.... So .... Hey let's put a seriously hot, dual coil humbucker in there. Yeah it's gonna require routing out the wood and yeah it requires cutting the pick guard to make way for the twice as big pickup. No going back to original with this one. Measure 20 times, cut once.
Actually used a drill and a Dremel to do this.
It's in and it really sounds great. Lots of gain. More like what I really like with guitar tone.
If the pics don't show, you should be able to click the links. One thing left to do.... I gotta reverse it's polarity because it sounds out of phase with the middle humbucker which is brighter. A couple of minutes and a soldering gun will tell the story.

Very cool. Recently modded a guitar with this configuration by adding a single push-pull tone pot to split all three pickups at once. Provided 10 different sounds with a 5-way switch, 7 of them humbucking. A very useful "under the hood" mod. Happy playing!!

I recently modified one of my strats to add two full size humbuckers. Sounds pretty close to a Gibson, close enough for me anyway I haven't used it on any of my songs yet, but I've used it on a couple of Marty's.
I literally just finished swapping the polarity of the new pickup..... that puts it in phase with the middle pickup in the "both" position on the 5 position switch. Much better.
The neck pickup is fatter and strong, with a full bottom. The middle pickup is similar but with a brighter top end and slightly thinner middle. While the bridge pickup is the brightest of the bunch, with less on the low end and much more on the mids and top. And if I want a really thin sound, I can flip the phase switch for that pickup and get that kind of sound.
When I played my SG in the bands I was in, I normally played 90% of the time on the neck pickup and rarely used the bridge PU alone. Now I think this Humbucker Tele will become a useful instrument that fits my needs much better than before. I was actually on the verge of selling it but someone suggested putting buckers in it before I sold it if I liked how it played but needed a better tone. Glad I took that advice.
